Stagnant Waters

The productivity of the castle seemed to be much more than usual. Servants were running back and forth with decorative arrangements and rearranging furniture. The old imp stood back and admired his work.

(Yes, yes. I think Lord Sesshomaru will be pleased with this) 

"Hey what are you doing over there! Alcohol is no longer permitted on the castle grounds! I'll have you know that Lord Sesshomaru will have your heads if there's even a drop left behind!"  Jaken scolded. 

[Flashback] 

"Are you saying Rin is with child my Lord?"

Jaken paused to process his thoughts then responded without thinking.

"Oh my! Who is the father then?"

He found himself on the ground in a daze. Sesshomaru had struck him hard.

"Do not be foolish Jaken" 

"Uuuuhyyyy... Yes my lord. of course you are. Forgive me."

Jaken stood up and collected himself.

"Oh! Then that means we must child proof the castle and prepare for the young master's arrival!"

"Hmph, Do as you please."

[Flashback End]

"Um, Master Jaken, what is going on?" Rin asked.

"OH RIIIN, you mustn't be moving about! When did you get here?!" Jaken replied.

"I just arrived moments ago and heard you shouting"

"No need to worry young Rin, all is taken care of. You just sit back and let Grandpa Jaken take care of things."

"... Grand...pa... Jaken?"

"Now scoot along Rin, you must get your rest"

Jaken made a shooing motion towards the exit. Rin had a look of confusion on her face but still obliged his gesture.

(Why is everyone so busy today? Are we expecting company? What on earth is a GrandpaJaken?) she thought.

Rin observed the servants and their busy routines of the day until she decided to seek out her husband. He had left her side abruptly when they returned from Inuyahas village. She wondered who or what all the preparations were for.

She found him seated on top of a branch of the cherry blossom tree. His eyes were closed, and if she didn't know any better, he looked as if he were asleep.

"Rin. Is something troubling you?" 

"I was just thinking, I understand when expecting someone, it is common courtesy to tidy up, but it seems a little excessive don't you think?"

"Nothing is ever too excessive for my family," he replied.

(His mother! That's it!)

"Oh... I see. I wouldn't know. I don't remember doing things to this extent for my mother but she is still your mother." 

Sesshomaru opened his eyes and looked at her. He blinked twice in confusion.

(My mother?)

"What reason would my mother have to do with this?"

"Huh? Oh! Inuyasha then!" She smiled excitingly.

(Inuyasha?!)

He closed his eyes and let out a sigh.

"There appears to be a misunderstanding Rin."

"So not Inuyasha then?"

"No."
