"I was quite nervous about Defence Against the Dark Arts, but now I'm looking forward to it," Cho chirped as they headed for History of Magic, which would turn out to be a boring class."Me too," (Y/n) agrees. "He's probably the most laid-back teacher we have."
"The only laid-back teacher we have," Marietta corrects. (Y/n) grins.
"Well, he's not technically a professor, is he?" Cho asked. "Do you think Dumbledore's going to try and find someone that's qualified?"
"Maybe," Marietta shrugged. "But I hope not. What if they're old and cranky?"
"That's true... Let's keep Bill," Cho said immediately.
Cho had spoken all too soon. In the middle of the third week of school, Dumbledore had stood up to introduce the new professor, a woman whose curly hair was tied up in a bun. Unlike the other professors, all of whom wore robes, the woman was dressed in clothes that would be worn by a Muggle who was going on a casual outing.
"I am both proud and saddened to announce that there is an official Defence Against the Dark Arts professor," Dumbledore began. He motioned for the woman to stand up. "Please give a very warm welcome to Professor Olivia Green." There was scattered applause but most of the student body, especially the girls, seemed gloomy over losing Bill as their teacher. "Having Professor Green does not mean that Mr. Bill Weasley is going anywhere as he has been so generous enough to offer extracurricular classes to the first and second years and the sixth and seventh years."
There was an excited murmur between the two mentioned age groups whilst the middle age group continued sitting gloomily. Fred and George booed loudly over the mention of Bill staying at Hogwarts, ultimately making Dumbledore's eyes twinkle in amusement. Percy gave the twins a bemused look whilst Bill sent them a mocking look."Extracurricular as in an extra boost in our grades of extracurricular as in learning extra?" Cho wondered.
"Why would an extra class be related to our grades?" Marietta asked.
"True," Cho said. "We've got Defence Against the Dark Arts tomorrow, you know? You think she'll be nice?"
"Well, she does not look old and mean," (Y/n) said. Cho nodded in agreement.
"Good morning, class, let's stop whispering about the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, yeah?" a voice mused. The class immediately fell silent as Professor Green strode out of her office with an attendance chart in hand tucked under her arm and a coffee mug in hand. "I'm sure that you've all heard the rumours of previous Defense Against the Dark Arts professors and I am here to assure you that I am not 'secretly evil' but that I am here to teach you all how to defend yourselves." She walked down the stairs and around to her desk.
"If any of you cared to ask the Hogwarts' ghosts, or even your current professors, you may have learned that I, just like you, was a Hogwarts student. My own Defence Against the Dark Arts experience was also a bit... uneven— I had a new professor every year just as many of the older students. I cannot promise that I will be your permanent teacher as tomorrow is never guaranteed but I will tell you that you have nothing to fear in my class. I have many years of practice and you will all find your potential in my hands!
"I am here to be your friend just as much as I am here to be your mentor, which is why I am going to follow Mr. Bill Weasley's lead and insist you not call me 'Professor Green.' No titles with me! I am Olivia to my students... Now, any questions for me or my class?"
Cho's hand shot into the air and Olivia smiled and nodded her head at Cho.
"Name?""Cho Chang!" Cho answered brightly. "What class were you in?"
"Ravenclaw," Olivia answered. "Just like you guys, hm? I was quite good friends with the Gray Lady," she added proudly. Another Ravenclaw slowly raised their hand and gave their name the moment Olivia called on them.
