"(Y/n), I've got a duel tonight," said Harry. (Y/n) blinked.

"Aren't those against school rules?" (Y/n) asked. Harry nodded. (Y/n) gave him a look of doubt.

"So, I thought to myself: who would know spells good enough to duel with better than (Y/n) (Y/l/n)?" Harry said, fueling her ego. (Y/n) smiled, shaking her head when she caught on to what Harry was doing. "Will you help me? I don't want to hurt— badly hurt, I mean— the guy, just... put him back in his place. Make him step down off his high chair, you know?" (Y/n) sighed, weighing the pros and cons. If she didn't help Harry, there was the risk of him getting hurt, but if she did help him, there was, of course, the risk of duelling.

"All right," (Y/n) finally agreed. "But don't you dare tell anyone who you learned these spells from. Unless we mutually know them! And no teachers either, obviously!"

"Gryffindor honour," Harry said. He raised his left hand a crossed-out his heart with his right. (Y/n) smiled.

"Meet me in the courtyard and from there, we'll go somewhere more secretive. I've gotta get a book."

"Of course you do."

"Hey, I won't help you at all if I hear one more comment like that!"

"All right, all right! I'm sorry!"

"Better."

"All right, so can I assume you already have the basic rules of duelling down?" (Y/n) said. Harry nodded slowly. "I want to explain theory now," she said. "Think of it as a game such as Rock, Paper, Scissors," she began. Harry's eyebrows furrowed. "An aggressive spell— Rock— can be fended off by a defensive spell— paper— and a defensive spell can be fought off by a sneaky spell— scissors— and an aggressive spell beats a sneaky spell," she explained.
"This year, you'll be learning none of that other than a knockback jinx," (Y/n) informed. Harry groaned. She smiled. "But seeing as you came to me of all people, I'll be nice enough and teach you an aggressive spell and a sneaky spell. Your mum would kill me if I taught you anything else. But you will be learning a defensive spell next year," she said. "I'm only teaching you these because you'll be learning them anyway." Harry nodded.
"First spell: a knockback jinx," she began. "Flipendo," she chanted, aiming the spell at a pile of books that she soon used a levitating spell to place back onto the table. "Clears a way for you," she informed. "And the other spell is Rictusempra," she chanted, aiming the spell at Harry. Harry curled in on himself, holding his stomach as he laughed. (Y/n) smiled, waiting for the spell to wear off. "That was your sneaky spell. Weakens your target with laughter." Harry smiled and nodded. "That's all? I don't think your opponent will know a defensive spell— if they're your age, of course."

"Malfoy," Harry confirmed.

"Mal— Malfoy?" (Y/n) stammered. "Harry, are you insane? There's no way that little ferret is actually going to show up to a duel! He'll rat you out and you'll get in trouble—"

"I know, I know," Harry huffed. "But if I don't show up and he does, I'll be a laughingstock of a coward." (Y/n) pinched the bridge of her nose. "What time is the duel? I can probably sneak you and your second person— whoever they are— around."

"Midnight tonight," Harry answered.

"Oh, that's perfect!" (Y/n) said. "I've got the map tonight. Meaning I'll be able to sneak you around. Who is your second?" Harry's eyebrows furrowed at the mention of a map, but he answered:

"Ron."

"Of course he is..."

"What's that supposed to mean?" (Y/n) smiled.
