Chapter 6

JIN POV

"We're not just friends. We're more than that."

Of all the things that I didn't expect her to do tonight, this tops my list. My, my. We're still consistent, huh?

Yes we are. She acknowledges 'us' in front of these people. My heart almost leaps from my chest. Everyone is shocked- all eyes on us.

And she said it casually.

I've never been more proud of my baby.

"Oh, is that why you went away? Because you had to give birth to your son?"

How did this fucker know? He really won't back down? Who the hell does he think he is?

I'm on the verge of hitting this bald man when Byul grips my hand under the table.

"Mr. Yoo, I think you should not say things like this thoughtlessly. The young Moon has been kind enough to accommodate all of us tonight. It's not in anyone's place to say something so personal and confidential. We all want to protect our family. If it's true, congratulations to the new parents. Maybe the grandparents are busy taking care of the little prince and that explains their absence."

Mr. Seo kindly and approvingly looks in our direction.

"Oh really? I apologize. I thought it's not a secret. Anyway, congratulations."

He has the audacity to act dumb? What is he so pressed about?

"I understand Mr. Yoo. After all, we did not hide it. We just value our safety and security even more now that a child is concerned so we really need to be wary of people who have malicious intent and will go out of their way to violate our privacy. You know how the life of someone like us can be at risk. It's unfortunate that you spoiled something so beautiful but there it goes. Seokjin and I are now proud parents."

She speaks so fluidly but her grip on me is shaking from the fury she is suppressing. We both didn't expect this. I interlock our fingers giving us the assurance and comfort we both need. 

I'm here baby. 

"You have a son? Out of marriage?" 

Mr. Woo exaggeratingly asks as if we're the first 'unmarried' parents.

"A piece of paper can be nullified. Why is it better?"

She retaliates apathetically.

"What will the public say if they'll know that you have a son out of wedlock?"

Is it really a major concern? A lot of chaebols are fooling around having affairs with anyone they wish.

"I was raised by my mother alone but why did you want to have a partnership with a woman who had a daughter out of marriage and whose dad is unknown?"

"Your mom is different from you. She has proven a lot on her own and you-" 

She cuts him off mercilessly.

"And why do I have to prove myself to you? Aren't you forgetting something? You're all here since you all want to get favor from us to not terminate the partnership with you."

"You'll be sending the company's future to doom--" 

These idiots, they are the ones who'll be sent to doom.

"Now aren't we having a burst of emotions here? Sending the company to doom? Why? Because I engaged into a premarital sex with Kim Seokjin and chose to bear a child and decided not to marry the father of my son? Don't you have a better counter argument to prove my incompetence, not just a mere attack on my character?"
