Chapter 21 Part 1

Friday

After his work, he went straight to the airport to meet with Byul and their son. They arrived at Jeju International Airport around 10 in the evening. They went to the villa planning to stay there for the entire trip. The villa has househelpers attending to their needs while a night nurse is with them.

The next morning, they decided to let Woojin swim in the villa's pool since it's still summer and the temperature was warm. Byul, not liking water, just watched Jin and Woojin enjoy themselves. The little child clearly had fun. 

The two of them went for a massage and watched the sunset as they walked by the seashore.

They just had their dinner and are now watching their son sleep.

"It's nice to drink cold beer on a summer night. Would you like to?"

"Not when you cannot drink."

She urges him to go and get some for himself. He stayed with her, taking care of her as she drowned herself from alcohol last time.

"Don't be like that Jin. I miss drinking but not to the extent that I'll drool when you drink. I  still have a hangover from Kook's party."

He considers her suggestion but he wants to stay with her, not wanting to leave her side.

"Aren't you sleepy yet?"

"Please, just get me some fruits if you want to be nice."

After getting some beer and fresh fruits, they went to their room's veranda to have a chat.

Remembering some of the things she said at the party, she initiates a conversation.

"Hmmm, I know it's a bit late to ask this but  would you like to tell me what happened to you these two years?"

He sips at his beer, needing to have courage in replying to her question.

"I think I became fine. Not the entire two years though but I can say that I was able to live."

She nods before biting on a watermelon.

"Did you live happily?"

He thinks deeply. Did he?

"I tried. Well I did. But you know, I was looking for something. How should I say it? I was happy, but it hurts."

She understood what he said. Very well. She thought she already knew a lot about him during their time apart, but there is still a lot to be revealed to her that they need to sort out as their relationship goes forward. Maybe they need to focus on the emotional aspect of their reconciliation.

"I thought we shouldn't be living in the past but telling me how it really was like for you back then might help us both."

She decided that this night is the start of processing what happened in the past and how it affected them.
