CHAPTER 9

Chapter 9

Their friends decided to leave them since Byul insisted on wanting to join the 'conversation'. They are now overlooking the city lights from the rooftop.

Finally having the chance to talk to him, she asks him how he is.

"How have you been? You look tired."

She glances at him for a brief moment before looking back to the view.

"Are you happy Byul?"

She can hear surrender in his voice.

"After all that we've been through, I'm just wishing for us to live a life we love, and I hope you are already having it. Seeing you earlier, laughing your heart out, even if I'm not the reason behind it, nor I'm not a part of your happiness now, I want you to be like that, always. You deserve to be happy."

His first love. The first woman and maybe the only one he'd ever felt safe and secure with. 

"I'm living my life the way I want. I became better at making rightful decisions for me, and for Woojin."

He is relieved to hear that she's been living great and he hopes it'll stay that way.

"Truthfully, I'm still grieving over the fact that we're really over but I was able to think clearer of our situation. I'm not going to insist on what I want. Let's go with yours."

He started solemnly. He feels the need to protect her perhaps because it's in his instinct but a greater part of him feels he's failed.

Byul stares at him. He's sad yet his expression shows submission as if he is slowly accepting the reality.

"Seojoon-oppa and I, we are not related in that way."

She doesn't know why she had told him. She felt she needed to, so she did.

"I already know that you are not. I just realized it now. You may say that I'm full of myself, but you don't look at him the way you did with me. And it's making it more painful. I had it before. It was only for me."

He chuckles before continuing.

"You're happier, aren't you?"

She looks at him before nodding.

"You may have changed, but you really didn't. You're still my Byulie, but you aren't mine anymore. Just promise me, you'll keep that happiness in you, princess."

She doesn't want him to be stuck in thinking that he has to make up for the past and he could only be better if they'll get back together. She wants him to find happiness on his own and live his life with no regrets anymore.

"Jin, don't you think that this is the best for us; what we are and who we are in each other's lives now, is the best that we can be?"

He stares at her as if she's the most precious treasure that the world has ever shown him.

"You're always the best for me regardless of who you are to me. Maybe you are right. Maybe not being together anymore can be the best for us."

His broken heart has been locked up for a good amount of time already. He deserves to be loved and to love again.
