Chapter 18

Nagising ako dahil sa marahang haplos na naramdaman ko sa aking noo. When I opened my eyes, I saw Klein fixing the strands of my hair while I was pillowing on his left arm.

“Good morning,” he greeted with a smile on his face.

“Good morning,” I greeted back.

Nauna itong bumangon kaysa akin. Noong balak ko na ring bumangon, bahagya akong nahirapan dahil naramdaman ko ang pagsakit ng aking likuran. Napatagilid ako at ipinangtukod ko iyong kaliwa kong siko para makontrol ko ang katawan ko.

“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” Maagap akong tinulungan ni Klein sa pagbangon.

“My back aches a little,” saad ko, nilalabanan ‘yung pagdaing ko.

I felt Klein move closer to me and he lightly massaged my back. I know he’s not good at this, but it made me feel better. Hindi lang naman ito ang unang beses na naramdaman ko ito. Doc. Salinas already informed us about the symptoms I might be experiencing and this is one of those. And since I’m a pregnant woman, what I’m experiencing didn’t worry me at all.

Nang medyo mawala ‘yung sakit sa likuran ko, pinigilan ko na si Klein sa ginagawa niya at pinasalamatan siya. He told me there’s no use in thanking him because it’s his responsibility to take care of me and the baby.

“Just stay here.” Tinignan ko na lamang si Klein hanggang sa makalabas ito ng kwarto.

Minuto ang lumipas nang siya’y makalabas, tumayo ako sa kama at dumiretso sa banyo upang maghilamos. After that, I went out and stopped in front of the window to watch what’s happening below. This is one of the things I like to do whenever I woke up in the morning.

Halos kalahating oras siguro ang nagdaan bago muling bumukas ang pintuan. Pagpasok ni Klein ay nakita ko ‘tong may bitbit na tray ng pagkain.

“Come here. You need to eat your breakfast.” Hindi ko namalayang napangiti na pala ako dahil sa mga ginagawa nito. Nilapitan niya ako at inalalayan pabalik sa kama saka niya ako sinimulang subuan.

“Don’t you like the food?”

“No, no. I like it.” I shook my head and a small smile escaped from my lips.

Hindi ko kasi maiwasang pagmasdan siya habang ganito ang ginagawa niya sa akin. After months of staying here with him, this is the first time he’s feeding me. Kaya bagong pakiramdam ito para sa akin.

Klein asked me if I will go to the office today. When I nodded he insisted on taking me there, but I told him not to. Alas dyes pa kasi ako papasok samantalang siya ay kada alas otso ang alis niya. Even though he’s the owner doesn’t mean he can slack off, and I don’t want him to slack off because of me.

Maliban kasi sa Tower na ‘to na pag-aari niya mismo, sa kompanya niya’y nagpoproduce sila ng mga luxury cars kaya hindi na kataka-taka na kung minsan ay iba-iba ang gamit nitong mga kotse. I haven’t been to his company building but that’s what he told me before. There’s also this one time that I researched his company and the cars they were selling are no joke at all.

I wonder how he can multitask himself in dealing with his businesses.

Napunta ang tingin ko sa direksyon ng closet ni Klein. He was there, standing in front of the mirror and busy fixing his tie. Seeing him having a hard time doing that, I stood and walked inside his closet.

“Let me,” I took his attention and stopped in front of him. He stared at me so I looked at him and smiled. Nang maibaba nito ang dalawa niyang kamay, saka ko inayos ‘yung kurbata niya. “Done.”
