Ansel's pov
"Mr. Elgort you may go see her now."
I jumped out of my seat and ran to her room. I walked in and saw the love of my life hooked up to a million different tubes and wires. I tried to hold back my tears but they ended up falling out. "Shai?" I said my voice cracking. I held her hand and ran my thumb over her engagement ring. Then all of a sudden i don't hear her monitor beeping anymore. I look at the screen and the line goes flat. The loud beep starts and i open the door and yell "Doctor, I need a doctor right now!" As soon as i finish a bunch of nurses barge in with a doctor. They rush me out of the room and all i can do is see through the glass window. Again they take out the shocker. They zap her chest once. Nothing. Twice. Nothing. Just when i was losing hope i hear the doctor yell "We have a pulse!" I slide down the hospital wall in relief. I almost lost Shailene. I stand up and look through the window again, everyone is looking around checking things then they put a Iv in her. I walk to the bathroom and splash water on my face. I look up at the mirror and sigh. "I have fallen madly,deeply in love with Shailene Diann Woodley." I smile to myself and repeat the words. "I have fallen in love with Shailene Woodley." I dry my face off with a paper towel and run to her room. The doctor is in front of the door. "Ansel you cant go in, I will catch you up on Shailene in a little bit. Go home and get some rest" she said walking away. "I wont go home without Shai" i protest to myself. I stomp over to the waiting room. She just rained on my parade. I go on my phone and look through the pictures of Shai and I. I smile to myself and look up from my phone to see Nat. I get up and we do one of those 'guy hugs' "How's she doing?" He asks me putting his hands in his pockets. "Um i don't know. Her doctor said she was going to tell me." Then as if on cue she walks up to us. "Speak of the devil" i whisper to nat then he nudges me. "So how is she doctor?" I ask. Her face doesn't look happy, i don't think we will be getting any good news. "Well she is doing okay right now but there is a slight chance she will make it through the night. She was stabbed in a major part of her stomach but if she isn't exposed to any germs she does have a chance to live." And with that she walks away.
I fall to the ground on my knees. I start sobbing and gasping for air. "Ansel." Nat says patting me on the back. "Shes might die!" I yell sobbing. "Ansel, i think you should go home and rest" "Go home and rest? Without Shai, im not leaving!" I yell. Nat grabbed my hand and pulled me out the door. It felt like i was a little kid not wanting to leave the toy store. I ended up in our apartment. I slowly and lazily walked up to our room and got changed. I went to the bathroom and opened the drawer. I saw pain relievers and dumped a bunch on my hand. "No stop. What would Shai say" i dump all of them back into the bottle. I slowly walk back to the bad and lay down by myself. I end up crying myself to sleep thinking the same thing over and over again. Shai please wake up, I need you...
Shai's pov
I opened my eyes and instantly gasp for air. I sat up and felt a sharp pain in my stomach. A nurse came running into my room. "Shailene please lay back down." "Where's Ansel." I ask looking frantically around the room and ignoring the pain in my stomach. "I want Ansel!" I repeat. "Okay, ill go get you Ansel." The nurse said calmly, obviously not knowing who Ansel is. I laid back down and sighed.
Ansel's pov
I woke up to my phone vibrating on the night stand. I squinted and turned on my phone. The light hurt my eyes but after a few seconds i recovered. It was the hospital's number. This is it, shes gone. I thought. My hand started shaking as i answered. "Hello?" I asked my voice cracking. "Is this Ansel Elgort?" The nurse asked. "Y-yes" i answered. "Shailene, has woken up and she has requested to see you and only you. Can you please come here so we can check on her." "Yes, ill be right there!" I say excitingly while ripping the covers off. I put on a shirt,sweats and some sneakers. I run out the door but go back in because i forgot my keys. When i get there i run to the room number that i have memorized. 301. When i get there i slowly open the door and see Shai. Her eyes are closed but she's awake. "Please, just leave. I don't want to see anyone." She says softly. I smiled and lean close to her ear. "Really? Because i got a phone call at 3 in the morning from the hospital saying you wanted to see me badly." As i talked i could see her smile growing wider and wider. "Ansel!" She said as she sat up but winced at the pain. I slowly laid her back down. I looked at her and started tearing up. "Ansel what's wrong?" She asked me while putting her hand on my cheek. "They said you wouldn't live." I cried out. "I thought you were gonna die..." i whispered. She pulled my head down to hers and pressed our lips together. We slowly kissed because i was afraid i would hurt her. We heard the door click and we pulled apart. "Ill never leave you. Till death do us apart." She whispered while smiling. "Not yet." I said smiling. The doctor walked in. "How are you doing Shailene?" "Um, my stomach hurts when i move but beside that im fine." She said. "Ok we are going to have to run some tests and then you can leaving in about three days." The doctor said then she left the room. I looked at Shai and smiled. "Im so happy to have you back." I whispered. Shai smiled and said "I happy to see your face again." Then we both started laughing until Shai winced at the pain. "So Alligent starts filming Monday." Shai said trying to change the topic. "Yeah... I don't think you will be going anytime soon." "I have to stay here for three days?" She wined. "Yeah... but don't worry ill be here with you those three days." Shai smiled and scooted over so there was space for me. She patted the space next to her and said "Come cuddle with me." "How could i refuse." I laid down next to her and wrapped my arm around her body. "What if we escaped?" She said smiling. "Shai we wouldn't even be able to make it out of your room!" I said also laughing. "Anything is possible with popsicle!" "But we don't have popsicles." I said frowning. "Then go buy some." she said. I could tell she was trying to hold in her laughter.
"I love you Shailene." I say all of a sudden. "Ansel, I love you too." She leaned in and pressed our lips together. "So much." She said in between our kisses. This is perfect.
