Chapter Thirteen:
I leaned against the bar and looked at Tyler.
"Could I get a water please?" I asked nicely.
He gave me a smile and nodded, pouring a quick glass. I took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to relax. I took the glass from Tyler gratefully and took a big sip.
I was four months pregnant. I had gained some weight but the bump was bigger and it was clear I was pregnant.
Many of the patrons in the restaurant often asked if I was seeing someone and if it was his kid. To save face and time, I always said yes and left before they could ask anything else.
"So how are you feeling?" Tyler asked me.
I shrugged, "I'm carrying a human, how do you think?"
"I thought you would be a little joyous over the gift of life," he said as he wiped down the bar.
I sighed, "I should be. But knowing whose it is, isn't really a happy thing. I don't want to go through custody. What if he gets it? what if Snake changes his mind and doesn't want to raise a kid that isn't his and tosses both of us out?"
Tyler shook his head, "he's not going to do that. He loves you. He's waited for you for years. He used to come in here every day when you first left, just to know of we had heard from you and if you were okay."
"Really?" I asked, finding it hard to believe.
Tyler nodded, "yeah. And even if he tosses you out, which he won't, you're always welcome with us."
I smiled thanking him and getting up from the bar, "well breaks over."
I headed back to my shift and tables.
After my shift I waited outside the restaurant for Snake to pick me up like usual.
"Hey!"
I looked over and saw Cry walking down the street towards me.
"Hey Cry," I said, giving him a smile, "what up?"
"Snake has to work late. He asked me to pick you up."
I nodded, "thanks."
We headed down the street.
"So how have you been doing?" Cry asked me.
I shrugged, "it's been okay. I've been pretty tired. I'm try to figure out everything about how to be a mom. It's a lot. On top of that, we don't really have the space for the baby."
"Well I have a couple extra rooms. You guys are welcome to stay with me. You know, like roommates. And besides more hands with the baby will be good. We're all one family."
I looked over at him and smiled, "Thanks Cry. I'll bring it up to Snake."
He nodded, "Don't mention it, Pebbles."
I blushed at his use of my nickname. Soon we were at my place. I opened the door and welcomed Cry in. Calypso galloped to the door, meowing. Cry scooped up the cat and coddled her.
I shook my head and laughed, heading into the kitchen. I popped a bag of popcorn into the microwave and went to the bedroom to get changed.
"Thanks for walking me back," I said to Cry as I walked back into the living room.
"Not a problem," Cry said, dangling a string in front of Calypso.
I snatched the popcorn from the microwave when the timer went off.
"You know you don't have to stay here till Snake gets home."
I sat on the couch next to him.
Cry shook his head, "nope. That's fine. Ill stay, Snake doesn't like you being home alone. Not with the baby and what's his face. So I'd rather avoid his rage."
I sighed and nodded, munching on popcorn.
"Well want to at least play some video games?"
Cry looked at me with a grin, "Duh!"
He jumped up and dashed to the console and began picking a game.
Cry and I were deep in a Smash Bros. match when the front door opened.
"Hey babe," I said, looking over at Snake and giving him a grin.
He smiled back at me before disappearing into the bedroom to get changed out of his suit. He came back out, dressed in sweatpants and a hoodie.
He plopped down next to me, wrapping his arm around me. Calypso gave an aggravated groan, having been moved from her warm best. She walked across me and curled up next to Cry. He reached down and patted her headed without looking away from the game.
I handed the game to Snake, "Finish him for me? I'm starving."
Snake nodded and took the controller. I got up and walked into the kitchen. I opened the fridge and stared aimlessly at its contents before sighing.
"Guys?" I called out to the living room.
"Yeah?" They replied in unison.
"Want to just order some pizza?"
"Hell yeah," Cry said in a higher pitched voice.
"Sure," came Snake's simple reply.
I shut the fridge and plucked the Papa Johns menu from the door. I dialed the number and waited for them to answer.
"Hi. I would I like to place an order for pick up."
I ordered two large pizzas, one with just cheese and one a meat lovers. Plenty of extra garlic sauce and some cheese sticks. I hung up and headed back into the living room, taking a seat next to Snake.
"Alright," Cry said, walking into the apartment carrying pizza, "I got pizza."
"Yay!" I clapped my hands in glee.
I grabbed a slice of cheese pizza while Snake got us some drinks and plates. Cry sat down at the table beside me. Snake came back and handed Cry and I coke and opened the beer he had gotten for himself.
"So," Cry said, looking at Snake, "Sophi and I were talking."
Snake took a bite of his pizza and raised his eyebrows at Cry, waiting for him to continue.
"Well, this apartment is great, for you and Sophi. But when the baby comes it's going to be a bit small. And I have a couple open rooms at my house since my mom and Nate moved out. I was thinking you guys could move in. And we could all pitch in around the house and with the baby."
Snake was silent and looked at me. I just looked back, slowly chewing on the pizza crust. Snake sighed.
"I don't know. I mean there is no denying that this apartment is too small. But moving in with you, no offense, but I just don't want to feel like I'm intruding. And also like I can't provide for me family."
I smiled to myself. He called us a family.
Cry nodded, "I totally get that. And you can pay rent if it helps. It's not a forever thing, but it's a thing to think about."
Snake have a nod of agreement, "yeah. I appreciate it. But let me think about it for a bit."
"Take all the time you need," Cry said.
"Well not too much time," I countered, "this baby is coming soon."
Snake smiled at me and leaned over, placing his hand on my stomach and rubbing gentle circles.
"I know. And I can't wait."
I smiled at him.
"I love you, Snake."
"I love you too."
