Chapter Ten

Sophi's POV:

I walked out of the bedroom. I smiled as Calypso ticked my ankle while she rubbed against them.

"Let's get you some breakfast before daddy gets up," I said, scooping the small animal. She purred as she rubbed against my cheek. I kisses her forehead and placed her on the floor by her bowl.

Taking out a can of kitten food, I opened it and dumped it into the food bowl. After making sure she was fed and watered, I went about cooking breakfast for Snake and I.

As I was finishing the last batch of waffles I heard the bedroom door open. I smiled as I felt arms around my waist from behind. I leaned back into Snakes chest. He kissed my forehead.

"Good morning love."

I smiled, "Good morning."

Snake headed over to the fridge and got out the orange juice.

"So I was thinking, maybe we shoudl do something today."

"What?" I asked him, looking at him with my eyebrow raised.

"Well I know there is something we need to take care of."

He sat down and looked at me, his face was serious.

I got a nervous feeling in my gut, "What?"

He motioned to the chair next to him, indicating that he wanted me to sit down. I did so.

"I know now you've been feeling stronger and more confident especially with the situation with him. There is something you need to do about it."

"Snake I'm not pressing charges, you know that."

Snake nodded, "I know. But you need to get a divorce."

My mouth went dry.

"How- how did you know?" I said in a whisper, my voice threatening to break.

"i know a lot. I have my own way of figuring things out. I had a suspicion. But I had to look it up to know for sure."

I didn't say anything, just looked down at my fingers. I was shaking. I was trying to forget about it. I knew I was going to have to face this but I wanted to just wait till the last minute.

"But it wont be uncontested. I'll have to go to court and face him. Talk about the abuse!" tears were threatening to pour over, "I don't know if I'm ready for that."

Snake took my hand, "You'll have me, Scott, Cry. You're whole family. We'll be there for you."

I bit my lip and then thought for a moment before nodding my head. Snake squeeed my hand and leaned over, kissing my forehead.

"Everything is going to work out."

"Snake, I don't know if I can do this," I whined, pulling on his hand.

We were meeting with the lawyer for the first time.

"It will be okay, I promise."

I followed him into the office. We sat in a blandly decorated lobby while we waited for the secretary called us back. About ten minutes later, we followed her back to the office. A sharply dressed man, stood up from behind the desk and reached over, shaking my hand.

"Hello Sophi, it's nice to meet you. I wish it was under better circumstances. I'm Phoenix Wright."

I nodded and shook his hand before taking a seat.

"So I hear that you wish to file for divorce from a Mr. Stephen Devin."

I nodded my head again.

"Okay, well first we need to file for seperation. Now I was given some information of the abuse in your relationship. We need to both meet with him and fill out the papers since he needs to sign it as well. I will try to get him served with seperation papers as soon as possible. Is there anything you wish to get or be granted from this divorce?"

I nodded slowly.

"What is that?"

"I wish to be granted a restraining order and 10,000 dollars to pay for the medical bills I got for seeking treatment after suffering the abuse from his hands."

Phoenix nodded, "Okay. Now I know you have expressed concern for your safety during the divorce and seperation. Would you like to go for a restraining order before the seperation to ensure your safety throughout all of this instead of waiting till after the divorce?"

I nodded quickly.

"Well that means we need to schedule a court date ASAP. You will have to testify and see him."

I swallowed and looked at Snake. He took my hand, rubbing the back of it with his thumb. I sighed.

"Okay."
