Kai's POV
Pacing around my room I envisioned several ways in which was going to tell my parents that I was engaged to a man I didn't even know or hadn't even seen in my life.
A man who I could probably search up on Google and find a picture of. Being the son of one the richest families in New York must have made room for some fame.
I had opened the Google search engine plenty of times and typed Zander Storm but never pressed the search button. I guess in some way I was avoiding it.
I was hoping no Zander Storm existed and this was all dream.
Searching for an image of him would just validate that I had already signed an agreement to marry him.
The New York Cancer Center had called my mom about her new chemotherapy. We were going to take her there today, she was confused at first not knowing who were the mysterious people who had paid for her treatment but I convinced her to check it out at the appointment.
How could I tell my mother that I was engaged almost technically married to a man I didn't even know?
This hospital offers one of the most expensive cancer treatments in the world and they had had the success rate to prove that money is time.
The Storms were paying $ 475,000 for the treatment plus room and board. The US medical system was a scam and healthcare is hardly accessible to those who needed it, and now it was a reason for my arranged marriage.
Searching my closet for somewhat formal clothes to wear.
I saw a white dress shirt and black pants. Hoping that the white vans that I was saving for a rainy day would be formal enough for the visit. I consider myself in the mirror, adjusting my clothes hoping that I look somewhat like I belonged around the fancy people that would be at the hospital or at least worked there.
The drive was going to take around 1 hour, so we packed up my dad's van and left early not wanting to be late for the appointment.
We reached the center in 1 hour and a half my parent felt confused as to why we were on the Upper Eastside. They drive in circles before I would conceive them to just follow the GPS.
The hospital was grand as expected and the staff knew me by name. I guess it was all the Storms doing. My mother got to see the doctor and the staff explained who would be paying for the expensive hospital bill.
My mother and father wouldn't fill their jaws off the floor when they saw the invoice paid in full with my name on it. The doctor advised my mom to go home and pack her bag to get care immediately.
She even meets her own fancy personal nurse. It took some time for my parents to start asking questions once we were in the car.
Realizing I had no choice but to tell come clean.
I told them about the letter, to me signing the papers and the Storms being the reason for Mom getting transferred to the new fancy hospital.
My mom started crying once she realized that I had given up particularly my social life to be wedded.
My dad on the other hand keep his eyes on the road the entire time, I am guessing he was feeling embarrassed about it.
"You shouldn't be paying for my actions." My dad sobs once we got home. It was done I didn't want to pay for his actions but I wouldn't bare the thought of losing my mom.
My mom was trying to find ways in which she could save me but I already signed all the paperwork. There was no way out of this marriage now.
Wanting to give my parents time to come to terms with my engagement, I go on a walk to clear my head.
