Kai's POV
I remove the damp clothes that clung to my skin and put them into a bag to take to the laundry room. And, as shards of glass fell to the ground, I couldn't help but feel frustrated. My phone was completely ruined. I silently curse Zander under my breath for all the trouble that he caused me. With a heavy sigh, I carefully placed my destroyed phone in the drawer of my desk.
I try to keep my composure. The last hour of my life was hell. I can't stand Zander. The crazy scoundrel ran me out of his car, stranding me on some random roadside in the rain.
I shut my eyes, recollecting how I stood alone in the middle of
dark street.I didn't know how many minutes had gone since Zander told me to get out his car, and sped off. I sink into the lonely street corner, shrouded in darkness from the lack of streetlights. Not wanting to be in the dark, I walk along the cracked and littered pavement in search of a streetlight.
As I walked on, the only sound I could hear was the distant hum of traffic and my footsteps echoing in the quiet street. However, soon enough, I finally saw a light flickering in the distance. A single lamppost stood in the center, casting a weak light. I stand under it for a while, until I notice a figure drawing near.
A man with a thick beard in clothes sewn together with multiple scraps of fabric walks up. I make myself noticeable, hoping he could help me with directions. However, at the last minute, I think to myself that he isn't the best person to ask for help so I step aside. He gives me a suspicious look but eventually continues on his way.
Suddenly, the sound of thunder echoes in the distance, and shortly afterwards, a droplet of water lands on my nose. I wipe it away, but more droplets follow, slow at first then heavier and heavier. I take my phone out of my pocket to help me see better.
Busy looking for somewhere to shelter from the rain, I almost miss the hand that comes out of nowhere and grabs my phone.
Stricken with fear, my hands latch onto the phone. I recognize the person who's trying to steal my phone as the same man that just passed me moments ago.
"Let go!" He shouts as he tries to tug the phone out of my hand.
As I am about to give up on saving my phone from the over-determined thief. An unexpected bright flash of light blinds me from what is happening in front of me. A coarse voice shouts but gets muffled by the heavy sound of the rain hitting the road.
Possibly scare of a larger threat than himself the man lets go, and runs off.
Not expecting him to stop our little tug-of-war, I drop my phone. I try to save it from impact with the wet ground, but I'm too slow and it shatters.
As I kneel to pick up what's left of my phone, I hear a voice telling me to get in.
Get in? Where?
I turn, and notice Zander observing me. Despite being happy that he wasn't another attacker, I ignore him. Pushing the heavily damaged in my pocket, I walk away from him.
He is the sole reason that I ended up in this situation in the first place.
Not minding the rain, I try to get away from him. I search for some sort of bus stop to shelter from the rain. Behind me, I hear honking as Zander follows me in his car.
I am about to cross the street when my feet go off the ground as Zander picks me up, and throws me over his shoulder.
I scream for him to put me down but he ignores me. He walks me over to his car, opens the door and sits me down on the passenger's seat. In just a few short seconds, he fastened the seatbelt around me and started the car — before I could even think to get out.
