Kai's POV

The good thing about Saturdays, I have the whole house to myself and I'm able to catch up on my favorite shows. I prop myself on the couch and turn the TV to the Freeform app.

I get thirty minutes into reruns of The Office when the doorbell dings. I mosey over to open the door where I find Julia smiling broadly.

The downside to Saturdays is more than likely you're home to receive your mother-in-law for impromptu visits.

"Honey, hug me. I haven't seen you in months." She orders cheerfully.

"Good morning, I didn't expect you." I hug her.

From the hour-long call, we had two days ago I thought she wouldn't be back from Australia in a while.

"Yes, I wanted to surprise you." She laughs.

"Come in," I invite her in ."How was Australia?"

"I'll tell you about it later, first I have a surprise for you," she says, and steps aside from the doorway. " He's ready for you." She waves for someone.

I peer out the door to see my mom walking down the passage.

"Mom, you're here?" I squeal.

"It's good to see you too, sweetie." She greets me with a kiss on the cheek.

"It's lovely to see you too," I say. " But, how come you are here?"

"You wouldn't believe it, I was in the middle of planning a fundraising event with the CMO down at the cancer center when I spotted your mom. We chatted for a bit, and when she told me that she was missing you, I just knew I had to take her with me to see you." Mrs Storm explains.

I allow my mom and Julia to enter the apartment.

"Your home is lovely, Kai." My mom whispers in my ear.

"Thank you," I tell her.

Julia turns to us, hands on her hips."I can't believe that Zander hasn't invited your parents to their son's home. That brute."

The smile on Mom's face drops," Mrs Storm, I'm sure Zander is anything but - "

She elbows me.

"Of course - he isn't," I add." Zander has tried, but they haven't been able to make it."

My parents might have gotten used to whole me, and Zander being married. However, the sting of my marrying for the sake of the family hadn't lessened. And, ever so often Zander would try to invite my parents over for dinner as a way to try and get to know them but they kept dodging the invitation.

I ditch my plans of enjoying a day of
watching the television to entertain Julia and my mom.

Julia being her usual spontaneous self arranged a white caviar illuminating facial for my mom and herself.

"Kai, you should join us. This is a great way to brighten the skin." She invites me to sit with them.

"I'll join you in a moment," I reply. "I just have to check on something."
