Why do I wake up heavy?
Muscles lukewarm with sleep
A head stuffed with molasses clouds
And eyes like a lead portcullis
Staggering like a newborn foal
Somewhere near the toilet, light
Prising into my skull, and shoulders
Stretched in a slumbering strappado

Outside it's raining lightly
A woozy alarm wails in the fog
The trickling of water bounces up
A wheezing bus grinds down the road
Morning smoke pushes into my face
In the greyness I hear the sigh
In every raindrop I feel
Like me, you struggle
To shake off the night.
