Borrowed Time

Suddenly Time appears in short supply
Hours dissolve in seconds
Earlier it had stretched like a bow string
Each twinged fibre a thousand millennia
Let fly atoms that crash with the life and death
Of innumerable universes
I hook up the string, and I smother the arrow

Time plays wicked tricks
Mixed with water, which she warned me
Would flush out the last of my mind
Fast forward to those soggy ashes
The scuttles that scratch in my ear
Are dead rats running overhead
Real rats are dormant, but the dead ones
Nibble those glistening pieces
This Time
I cannot spit the water out.
