Blood on the Leaves

With trembling hands I pick up the knife
And tear open my body to bleed sunshine
Light sprays in hissing jets
Drenching everywhere in happiness
Sunlight drips off soft green tips
For a few seconds fading behind a shield of cloud
Then out bathing thirsty veins
Children of the earth fan out
They grow in the nuclear rain
Breaking millions of miles away
I walk myself through the downpour
Soaked in sunlight
Staggering with glowing holes
I have split the holy cocoon
The throbbing chrysalis supposedly
Transforming me into a more colourful self
Collapsing on ice black tarmac
Still trailing sunbeams
I cry out for my own plot of land
Where I may plant my sunshine
And shrivel to rest as a shed skin.
