At first I wasnt to write anything today but I got and idea after getting the chance to see fireworks this year while heading home from my grandparents house. I'm not feeling very happy with America but bc mine and my dad's birthday is two days after the 4th it's been kinda the birthday celebration for us and our actual birthday is just spent with my family. This will take place in America, but we'll pretend America has fucking fixes itself.

Trigger Warning: Rushed writing on my phone in a bouncy car, and swearing as usual.

4th of July. What really is it? Is it to celebrate the President? Freedom? The fight to be free?

That wasnt it. Not at all, America isnt free. Coronavirus had hit a few years ago, as well as the protests against the law for the justice of black lives. Only now could LGBTQ+ people get jobs without being worried about being rejected because of who they love or who they are as a person (fun fact, it's now illegal to reject anyone from a job due to homosexuality). However people still weren't free. Just because all police officers that have mistreated people of colour have been arrested and charged, just because people were finally accepting that love it love and it shouldn't matter to anyone but the lovers. There was still a fight, more justice for people of colour to be brought, more love between rich and poor, beautiful and ugly, skinny and fat. There's still the fight for people with disorders, both physical and mental, to be accepted, understood, and loved, as well as given the ability to get help. There are still people getting kicked out of their homes because they love the same gender as them, because they are in the nonbinary spectrum, or because they were transgender and simply born in the wrong skin and body.

So what is the 4th of July about?

Celebration.

It's about celebration, tradition. Throwing a free hotdogs or burgers on the grill, the kids playing around the yard until dark while the adults talked and cracked open a cold beer, it's about teens jokingly throwing pop-its (they're little rocks wrapped up in paper and when they hit something with enough force, they make a popping sound. They dont hurt that bad either) at each other or trying to see if they can pack a whole package in one go, its about spelling your name with a sparkler for a picture or spinning them around and chasing your friends with them.

To most, its about the love and sparkly but hot lights and staying up late with family as well as watching firework shows or singing classic songs about freedom everyone learns in grade school. Or younger kids hiding in their rooms with the scared dogs.

That's and experience Izuku never had. His house was surrounded by trees so he could never see the mortars shot off. He never really had a dad and after Kacchan started hating him, their families split apart so Masaru never became his father figure to grill hotdogs or hamburgers while Inko sat down and caught up with Mitsuki as they watched their sons chase each other around the yard until they could barely see they're hands in front of them. They never had money to buy sparklers or pop-its or even ground flowers(look up ground flower fireworks, they're one of my favourites). So the Midoriya family never got to celebrate it, they didnt find the use. Instead, Izuku and Inko would cuddle up on the couch and watch movies until they fell asleep or until the firework booms had stopped going off.

But now he was older and even going to Yuuei college. He had made so many amazing friends, and all of them were sitting at Momo's house for a little 4th of July party/sleepover. Everyone was there from their class as well as some of class 1-B, as well as a few other people like Mirio, Tamaki, Nejire, Mei, and Camie.
