Money is hard for Virgil, if the area that he works in is anything to say. The lack of money also means he sleeps in the back room of his shop.
He gets up, taking a minute to stretch. Then he throws on his cloak and hat on top of his black sleep shirt. He heads to the cracked mirror and sits down by it, applying makeup to cover his freckles and make his eyebags appear deeper. He doesn't like his freckles and the darker under eyes make him more unapproachable so people actually leave him alone. He grabs food from the small kitchen and quickly eats it.
Shouting rings into his ears from outside, so he heads to see what is happening. He looks through the smaller window in the metal door.
"Hurry mommy!" A little girl shouts happily. Virgil looks around a bit, soon seeing Katherine and her daughter Luna walking towards the shop. Well, Luna is skipping towards the old door. Katherine is a witch and Luna has been wanting to learn, but was too young previously for it to be safe.
Virgil happily unlocks the door and opens it, "Come on in you two." He smiles. Luna rushes up and hugs his legs as tight as she can. Virgil pats her head before removing the hat she wears and ruffling her beautiful long, dark brown hair.
"Hey! Don't do that!" She pouts, making both adults laugh.
Virgil smiles, "I'll do it if I want to squirt. Now, you can go play with the cats. Lucky is awake and is ready to play." He tells her. The young girl runs into the shop, looking for the stray alley cats that take shelter in the shop. Both VIrgil and Katherine walk fully inside and Virgil looks to Katherine, "What are you looking for today Kathy?"
"I just need a few ingredients for a potion I'm making."
"What type of potion?" Virgil asks, walking behind the counter.
"Eternal sleep."
"Ah. Finally doing something to solve the whole Gerald issue?"
"Yeah. I got sick of him."
Virgil chuckles, "Well, a lot of what you'll need are over there, then you know where the herbs are." He points to one side of the shop. She nods and walks off, looking at the different ingredients. Her vision switches between the potion book and the ingredients as she grabs them. Virgil grabs a few things and heads over to Luna.
"Did your mom say I could start teaching you?"
Luna looks up at him, pausing the hand that is petting Lucky. She nods happily, "Yup!" She smiles and stands up. Virgil picks her up and carries her to his spell books on display. He looks through the books before picking out Witchcraft for Young Learners: Volume One and he hands it to her.
"Now. We are going to need a cauldron for you."
"Can I go pick one out?"
"Of course." Virgil puts Luna down and she runs off, looking at the cauldrons. She picks out a black on with flowers engraved into it. It's the right size for her and is good enough for beginner potion making. He picks it up and carries it into his practice room. He kneels next to Luna as she opens the book.
"What potion do you want to do first?" he asks. Luna looks through the pages before pointing at a bounce potion. Virgil grabs the book and looks over it, he has her read the little blurb about the potion as well as the importance of the ingredients. While she reads over that, he grabs a large thing of water, a few glass bottles, and a mixing spoon. When he comes back, Luna has finished reading.
"Okay, go grab your ingredients." The man says and Luna stands up, "You need 4 bushels of redfern, a tulip, and sugar." Luna rushes around, grabbing the three things needed. Virgil helps her pour the water into the cauldron as he tells her about important things to remember when it comes to the setup.

FanfictionThis is just a bunch of oneshots I wrote that aren't horribly cringe from mulitple fandoms, or even books that I started writing but don't have the motivation to finish. I'm just throwing this out there bc I want to clean up my drafts a bit.
