A confused expression forms on my face as I turn to the unannounced arrival of Jibeom's cousin into my office. "Dahyun?" I ask with my brows raised in curiosity.

For a split-second, she seemed upset as she came in, but the next second after that, her face suddenly lights up and an excited expression forms on her face as she quickly approaches me. "Y/N! Oh, my. I've barely even seen you at all, and suddenly I've heard news about you and Jibeom dating! It seems you've gotten back together?" she asks me with sparkling eyes.

I blink at her words. Seriously, I was not expecting this to be the first words she says when she came in, but I guess she was just really excited that she forgot all about courtesy. "Ah, yes..." I eventually reply, wearing a small smile on my face. "And... you've... come here for that?"

"Why, of course!" Dahyun responds, suddenly grabbing my hand and holding them in hers. "We're basically in-laws at this point! I'm so excited!"

I just laugh awkwardly in response while giving Yeji a side-glance. She just shrugs at me in response. How else do I respond?

Then, she brings up something I didn't really want to hear at the moment.

"But, Y/N," Dahyun suddenly says, her tone changing, and I look towards her curiously. "I've actually been to Jibeom's house lately and it seems... his father is not happy with it? In fact, he wants Jibeom to marry someone else: the daughter of the famed Chou Family."

I freeze at her words, then I suddenly feel her grip on my hands tighten for a split-second.

What the- W-why is she suddenly telling me this?

"Did you know, Y/N? Jibeom even gets beaten by his father's staff every now and then when he comes ho-" Dahyun continues, only to be cut off when Yeji suddenly places her arm in between me and her, making Dahyun stop and turn to her with a surprised expression.

"Ah, sorry," Yeji then explains and I turn to her with a thankful look in my eyes. "It's just that Y/N's not really in the best mood right now, so I'm hoping you can be a bit more considerate and talk to her about these things some other time?"

Dahyun then lets go of my hands as she turns to Yeji, looking flustered. "Ah... of course... I apologize."

I just give her a small smile and a nod. "It's okay," I mumble before turning away.

"Anyway," Dahyun then says, smiling widely once again as she looks atboth me and Yeji in a sudden professional stance. "It was nice seeing you again, Y/N, and it was nice meeting you, too, uh..."

"Yeji," Yeji introduces herself, though rather bluntly, which Dahyun seems to be taking not so nicely.

"Yeji," she says, her smile looking forced as she repeats the name, before she turns back to me. "I'll be seeing you around again, then. Bye!" And with that she leaves.

Once again, she came and left abruptly.

"What was that?" Yeji asks me once Dahyun had gone and I just look at her with a forced small smile.

"It was probably just nothing. Just got excited over the news and all," I explain, though I know Yeji has ghoughts of her own, very similar to my actual thoughts as well, and I confirm when she gives me that eyebrow-raising.

"Are you sure, Y/N?" she asks. "Because by the looks of it... I don't think that Dahyun can be trusted. She even tried to bring you down just as soon as she was congratulating you! Now, don't you think that's suspicious?"

I just maintain my small smile as I look at her. I know she knows what I'm thinking of. I'm suspicious of Dahyun, too. Her actions were actually very easy to look through, but... something was biting at me inside.

I know about the opposition of Jibeom's father to our relationship and how he's pre-engaged to someone else, but... Could it be true? That Jibeom gets himself beaten by his father everytime he comes home? Just because he's dating me?

"Y/N," Yeji suddenly calls my name, and I turn to her as she places her hand on my shoulder. It seems she was able to see whathad been on my mind judging from the concerned look she's giving me. "Don't think much about what she said, okay? For all we know, she could be lying. So don't listen to her."

I sigh as I look down at the floor below me. "Mm. Don't worry."

"Now, what is it that you wanted to tell me?" she then asks.

I then remember seconds after thinking. "It's about my mother... and how she really died."
