Jibeom's POV

"But, father, it's clearly too early."

"Listen to me, young man. You will become the new CEO of Heaven's Cloth because I say so and nothing's gonna change that!"

"But why now? Why are you rushing things so suddenly?" I ask my father in desperation. I can't understand why he's suddenly handing the company over to me. He's still in good health and I still had a lot of training to go through. Unless...

My brows furrow, and a look of disbelief forms on my face as I look at my father.

"It's because of SilverLining changing their CEO, isn't it?" I ask him, my annoyance growing. "Father, this is getting out of hand. First you force me to marry someone I barely know, and now you're suddenly telling me to take over the company?!"

"It's for your own good!" he tells me sternly but I don't stop.

"What do you mean 'it's for my own good'?! That's what you always say, but nothing you ever do is for my own good because all you ever care about is the company!" I yell at him, only to quickly shrink back when he raises his staff.

"You dare question my actions?! Are you forgetting who I am?! I am your father, Kim jibeom! You should know better than to say things that would insult me!" he shouts intimidatingly, and I look up from him in my shrinked state with a bitter expression. "You will take over Heaven's Cloth and that's final. I will announce it to the company tomorrow and you will have to be there." He then lowers his staff and walks past mr, saying something as he passes by me. "Don't even think of coming late to embarrass me or else I will make you regret it."

...

Present day

"Y/N... l-let's meet up, please? I just want to see you again." I try to keep myself from making it obvious that tears are streaming down my face as I say that. I don't want her to know that I'm breaking as well right now that I know she needs support, but...

"O-okay, sure," Y/N replies and it sounds like she just woke up from a trance as she says that. "Where and when do you wanna meet?"

I wear a smile on my face as a reply. "Ten o' clock tonight. The usual meeting place."

I can almost see her smiling again as she replies. "Sure. See you then, Jibeom."

"Yeah... bye, Y/N... I love you."

"Aw... I love you, too, Jibeom," she replies and I smile again as I wipe away my tears before hanging up. But as I look at Y/N's contact ID while thinking of what's to come tonight, I suddenly find my tears returning again.

I end up bursting into tears as I rest my head on my folded arms on my desk. I really don't want to do it, but it's for the best...

If we keep on going, both of our companies might be affected badly.

That night
Your POV

I wait patiently at my and Jibeom's meeting place. He hasn't arrived yet, but it's still not 10:00 so it's understandable.

I look towards the clear night sky to see the stars shining. A smile then forms on my face as I think of how Jibeom and I chose such a beautiful meeting place.

Suddenly, I hear movement from the path leading to this place, and I quickly turn to it to see Jibeom arriving, a small smile on his face, almost seeming sad.

My face lights up when I see him, and I quickly run to him and give him a hug. "I missed you so much! I'm sorry I didn't even try to cintact you the moment I started working again."

"No, it's okay," he says as he pats my head. "... Are you feeling better now?"

My smile then turns smaller, but I nod as I rest my head on his chest. "Thanks... for helping me that day... and for waiting for me as well."

I hear him chuckle as he starts caressing my hair. "It was nothing." We stand there like that for a while, saying nothing, until Jibeom speaks up. And what he just said suddenly made me pull away from him with a shocked expression. "Y/N... let's... let's break up... please?"

My eyes widen, and I quickly pull away from Jibeom as I look at him in disbelief. "W-what? Could you say that again?"

He seems to be struggling to explain something, but as he looks at me looking at him with a questioning look, he finally speaks. "M-my father knows... that we're dating..."

"So?" I ask him, my brows furrowing. "Even if your father knows, should that be a reason for you to just suddenly break up with me?"

"It's not that simple, Y/N," he tries to explain as he takes my hand but I quickly pull away.

I don't understand. I don't understand anything. He called me here saying he wants to see me again, but now he's just suddenly breaking up with me? What is he even trying to do? "Jibeom, I dare you to say it again," I tell him challengingly. "I dare you. Say it!"

Jibeom looks at me with a surprised expression before he lowers his gaze guiltily. "I- Y/N, please, understand. This isn't just for me-"

"How is it not just for you?!" I start yelling at him, tears welling up in my eyes. "Just a few days ago, you came to me saying that you're engaged but that you would try to stop it for us, but now? Jibeom, don't tell me... you're doing this for that, aren't you?"

"No!" he immediately answers as he looks up at me with wide eyes. "Y/N, I would never do such a thing!"

"Then why are you breaking up with me now, huh?" I ask him, and he seems to hesitate. "Unbelievable," I whisper as I walk past him, but I stop when he suddenly speaks up.

"I just don't want you to be hurt!"

I stop in my tracks, but I don't turn around.

"My father is a manipulative man, Y/N. And he'll do anything just to make things go his way. If I don't go with his words, I'm afraid he might hurt you. But if we're not together anymore-"

"You think I would just let that happen?" I ask him, cutting him off, and I turn to him with a pained smile. "I'm not that weak, Kim Jibeom. Just wait. I'll show you I can make you mine again without getting any of us hurt."

He looks at me with a surprised expression, and I turn around and walk away.

Even if Jibeom ends up bowing to his father just like that, I'm not just gonna do as he did. I'm gonna make things better for the both of us, and no one's gonna stop me from doing so.

Third POV

Light washes into the dimly lit office as an employee enters, soon closing the door behind him.

"Madam, we found news about your cousin's rumored girlfriend. It seems she is indeed the new CEO of SilverLining," the employee reports to his employer who stands near the huge glass windows, looking down at the city lights illuminating the night sky.

A smirk forms on her face as she runs her fingers through the window frame. "So it turns out my family's rival is the one keeping my cousin from marrying for the good of the company?"

"Yes, madam," the employee replies as he keeps his head down. "I had also done some investigations and it seems she is not in the best condition as of now since her mother had passed away just recently."

"Hmm, interesting..." The woman moves away from the window as she walks to her desk, a malicious smile in her face. "She must be very vulnerable right now. Keep investigating. And look for other weaknesses she might have. For the meantime... I'll wait and see if I can turn her into my puppet."

"Yes, madam," the employee replies before leaving the office.

Once he had gone, the woman picks up a pen from her desk and plays with it among her fingers. "So, Choi Y/N, how would you like to have a new playmate?"
