Honey wondered if it was too late to back out? Sure, she had trained and practiced all summer to be in the best shape as she could fathom. However, the thought of being denied the opportunity to flourish in the way she wanted made her doubt her ability in making the Westwood University's cheerleading squad.
From the outside looking in, many couldn't quite understand the significance of Honey's desire to be apart of the team. In Honey's eyes it was her ticket to pushing herself to be more than a homebody. During her years of high school, she only had the responsibility of maintaining her grades. She didn't have any extracurricular activities, a place of employment or hobbies in which she invested herself in. For her freshman year as a college student she wanted to break that cycle of being a lone wolf that was afraid to be outgoing. Honey had to leave her familiar cocoon of comfort to discover the endless possibilities that were waiting for her.
Honey had her entire life ahead of her. She no longer wanted to waste time. She had to take risks and find herself. How could she know what she was interested in if she never gave anything a try? Honey has adapted a new attitude and outlook on life after she reminisced on her wasted potential throughout the course of her high school years.
Feelings of anxiety and fear aside, Honey has prepared herself for this moment all summer and she was positive that she was going to excel. She was going to apply this mindset to everything she did. Failure wasn't an option.
"Hey babe? The professor dismissed class nearly 5 minutes ago."
Honey blinked in confusion as her hazel eyes swept over the now empty classroom, that once held 40 students and an elderly professor discussing the details of the syllabus. "That's what I get for not paying attention huh? I'm surprised you didn't leave me behind like everyone else did."
Cynthia Brooks, her best friend since 9th grade was perched on top of the wooden desk where Honey's belongings resided. Her midnight black hair was curled to perfection and framed her heart shaped face. Her full lips coated in a nude shade of matte lipstick that blended flawlessly with her dewy mocha complexion. "Of course not! Whenever you go, I go. Plus, we have a cheerleading team to try out for." She reminded Honey, her doe brown eyes twinkling with excitement as she wiggled a manicured finger in Honey's direction.
Honey had to agree with her best friend on that one. They were a package deal and stayed glued to each other hips in high school. Most of their classmates knew if they saw Cyn, then Honey would be somewhere close behind. It's the way things always were since they met during freshman year.
As the spring semester approached, they began sending in college applications and made sure to apply to the same universities within the metropolitan area of Atlanta, Georgia. The city in which their families reside and where they're from. However, the university they've chosen is one of the nearby local colleges that most of their peers had considered going to as well. There was huge possibility she would see the familiar faces she went to high school with including Angel and Royce. And other faces she could live without seeing such as Robin or Tasha. However, the last she heard of Tasha she had gotten shipped out of state to stay with her stepfather due to her constant disruptive behavior. Honey had to admit there was cons that went along being local, but Honey was grateful for the relief and familiarity that comes along with having all her friends attend the same university.
