"Last minute Christmas shopping is the worst! Did you see the way that lady almost tackled me for that bottle of perfume? It smelled like cigarette ashes and moth balls so I don't get why she did all that."

Blue adjusted the various shopping bags hanging from her wrist, laughing heartily as she twisted the key into lock so they could escape the chilling temperatures from outside. "Next year, I need to scrap up enough money to buy mom and dad's Christmas presents on time. It's literally Christmas Eve. What else did we think was gonna happen?" She asked Honey rhetorically as they both entered their family's home, startled at the noises in the distance.

Honey and Blue went seeking gifts a day before Christmas not only because her sister was short on money. But also because the sisters strategically arranged to go Christmas shopping on the day they knew their parents would be away at Savannah, picking up family members for her mother's Christmas dinner tomorrow. They planned on their family coming back much later than they did. It was a quarter pass 8 o'clock and Honey was left wondering how they were able to beat them back home.

Honey stared at Blue wide eyed as she closed the front door soundlessly. She cursed herself for not being observant enough to notice the cars in the driveway. "I didn't think they would be home so soon! That was a three hour drive there and back. Quick, give me the gifts and I'll go sneak 'em upstairs while you distract them." She threw a swift glance around the foyer to make sure no one was alerted of their presence and opened her arms, taking the rest of the shopping bags.

Blue nodded, pulling the teal bucket hat off her dyed blue hair. "Start wrapping the gifts so we can put them under the tree tonight. Also, lock your bedroom door so Hakeem and Lala won't barge in." She advised quietly as she went in the direction of the noise.

Honey waited patiently until the coast was clear, then tiptoed upstairs to her old bedroom with the shopping bags gathered in her arms. She unsteadily locked the door, barely making it to desk before she dropped the bags on the surface with an exasperated huff. She wiped her clammy forehead, breathing heavily for a moment. "That was heavy. I should've made Blue bring up this stuff while I distract everybody. I swear we got half the mall in these bags."

She yanked off her knitted gloves, surveying the numerous gifts she was going to hand wrap. Why didn't I buy gift bags and craft paper instead? Honey mentally facepalmed herself and took everything out the bags, separating the gifts into piles so she could know what to get started on. She only planned to wrap the items she bought herself, that's it. She was going to let Blue do her own stack once she came upstairs.

Honey was already tired from spending hours at the mall with her sister, visiting almost every store under the sun to find suitable gifts for everyone. Honey regretted not going Christmas shopping earlier. Usually, every year she was on it and was the first to have everyone's respective gifts under the tree. However, this year she stalled for weeks and went with her sister at the last minute. She was trying to get back in the groove of venturing in the outside world.
