Honey watched in fascination as the scenery of scintillating lights, plastered billboards and distinctive infrastructure blurred under the onslaught of heavy rain from above. The hazy headlights of the surrounding vehicles on the intersection shone brightly in the somber atmosphere. But it did nothing to stop Honey from cupping her face in her palm, leaning against the window like an excited child. "I've never been on this side of Atlanta before."
Noir cast a glance over to Honey out of the corner of her eye as she drove. "This region is more on the peaceful side. I don't particularly like the city noise of downtown."
Honey nodded in understanding, toying with the drawstrings of her windbreaker. "I don't blame you. It does get pretty noisy with the airplanes flying over head, cars honking and stuff. Plus, the prices of apartments, lofts, condos and townhouses are through the roof. You'll get a better deal if you live outside of the downtown area."
"Precisely, that's what prompted me to select this district. We're almost at my place by the way. When we arrive, I'll treat you to a homemade meal. It's a surprise dish that you'll love."
Honey placed a hand over her heart, fluttering her lashes in an exaggerated manner. "No one has cooked for me before. You'll do that for me?"
Honey was enjoying Noir's company while the rest of her friends had been going M.I.A with their significant others and a plethora of college activities. Noir has been consistent and Honey appreciated it more than she let on. Ever since Honey left to college without the solace of her family. She had been relying on her friends to fill that void of loneliness, but she didn't want to become overbearing so she's been branching off and making friends of her own or occupying her time elsewhere.
All in all, Noir was what she needed at the moment.
Honey was glad nothing hadn't changed between them after she declared her lack of desire for a relationship or anything remotely similar to that. Honey had been assuming from Noir's actions that's what she wanted, but maybe not? Just because someone showed interest didn't always mean they wanted a relationship. She had to understand college was a whole different ballgame and people mingled among each other all the time without a title.
Noir smiled, her eyes lightening up. "Most definitely. You'll be my guest in my home so I must do what I can to make you feel comfortable."
Honey returned her infectious smile, feeling shy under her gaze and turned back to the window to observe the landscapes once more.
They arrived shortly after that exchange, exiting off the interstate and driving into a gated community in a dense wooded area. Noir's apartment complex was modernized and constructed sleekly with the skyscrapers centered on trimmed grassy lands. Honey wondered how could a 21 year old in college could afford such a nice place to live? I guess the tattoo parlor she works at pays her good.
