Honey didn't understand where her courage vanished to? More than ever did she need it in this moment. In approximately twenty minutes their university's first football game of the season was going to begin with the bleachers filled with students, fans and family including her own. Instead of being present with her team that was counting on her no less. She's hiding in the stalls of the restroom in the locker room fighting her overwhelming anxiety and fear.
Honey thought she would be fine, but the impending panic had her trembling all over. She put on her a brave face for everyone, pretending she would be okay, hoping she would eventually believe it herself. Yet, as she fidgeted with the ribbon in her hair she wasn't so sure. "You can't back out last minute. They're depending on you." She reasoned with herself, it became a mantra she chanted in her mind until her hyperventilating breathing calmed down. She patted a sheet of tissue over her damp forehead as she closed her eyes fleetingly. She stood to her feet, rolling her shoulders and burying the unwanted feelings. "I'm overthinking it. Just pretend like tonight is another day of practice-"
Suddenly, the door to the girls' restroom flew open creating a loud thud against the wall. The hurried footsteps rushed over to the sink, the faucet ran. Honey could hear someone sniffling and whimpering. Honey furrowed her eyebrows in confusion as she pushed the door open and stepped outside the confinement of the stalls. The other girls told her there's never anyone in the building after 5pm on game day besides the janitors.
Honey peered over to a visibly upset Rosa as she knelt over the sink, tears flowed down her crestfallen face. Rosa's watery eyes met Honey's in the mirror and she scoffed incredulously. "Could this day get any worse?"
Honey glowered at Rosa, her arms crossed. "I can't even ask you if you're okay when you're already being a bitch. Do you ever take a day off?"
Rosa rolled her eyes indifferently, as she wiped away her smudged mascara and fluffed out her short bob. "Yes I do, I'm not always a puta to peoplethat I actually like. That doesn't include you just in case you didn't know." She sneered, her nostrils flared.
Oh really? I never knew Honey thought to herself sarcastically. Once again, the anger is directed at the wrong person. She's more more mad at me than the nigga. She was just locking lips with him. Can you say stupid? "Whatever, I never did anything for you to have such a nasty attitude towards me." Honey snorted as she tossed her crumpled tissues in the garbage can next to the exit.
"Don't act innocent. You knew exactly what you were doing."
A humorless laugh escaped Honey as she ran her hands over her cheer uniform to smooth out the creases. "Refresh my memory then? Oh wait, you can't because nothing ever happened besides you getting angry that keyword: YOUR nigga talked to me. By the way, I suggest you stop holding onto that anger because I can guarantee that I won't be the last girl he tries to get at." Honey told her bluntly with a shrug then she stalked out the restroom. She wasn't even going to waste her time being upset at the bird brained bitch. She clearly isn't meant to be friends with everyone on the team which was fine by her.
