Chapter 6
Lexa POV
Before I could stop it from happening the worst had already happened.
I shouted loudly "HARPER DON'T" But it was too late. The ball had collided with Clarke's perfect face.
I see blood dripping down her nose onto her shirt. I feel racked with guilt that I had allowed this to happen to her, by my so-called friends.
"What did you do that for?" I angrily shout at Harper. Grabbing her soccer shirt in my fist.
"Relax Lex, it was just a joke. What are you so bothered about anyway?" Harper looks confused as to why I act so defensive over Clarke. I let go of her, regaining my composure. I realise if I act like this they will begin to suspect something so I lie to them instead. Realising I had to keep up my guard.
"I'm not bothered about Clarke. But doing something like that can get you kicked off the team! What if the coach had seen that? Or Clarke goes to the head?" I look at her waiting for a response.
"Sorry captain, I didn't think about that. I just wanted to wipe that smug grin off her face." Harper explains to me, clearly not bothered about Clarke.
"It's fine. You finish up here. I'm going to scare her into not grassing you up to one of the teachers" I throw a ball in her direction. "Tell coach I wasn't feeling great but will make up the time tomorrow" With that I pull my sweatshirt over my head and try to chase down Clarke.
Obviously, I wasn't going to scare Clarke. But I did need to make sure that she didn't say anything to one of the teachers. Much to my dismay Harper was one of our key players and we didn't stand a chance without her in defence.
I pick up my pace and catch my breath as I reach the parking lot. I see her on the phone and catch up to her as she puts her phone away before continuing to walk off.
"Clarke!" I shout in her direction. SHe clearly hears me but doesn't turn around and continues to walk down the road.
"Clarke, stop please!" This time my voice breaks slightly as I am desperate to stop and look at me.
She turns to face me this time, maybe hearing the pleading in my voice. As she turns around I felt like crap, like the worst person in the world as I see up close what my best friend had done to this princess' face.
Clarke POV
Lexa shouts me again, sounding different, almost upset. I turn around to give her a mouth full. But that's when my eyes lock with hers and I don't see what I expect to see.
I expected to turn around and see a smirk on her face, boasting about what had just happened. But instead her eyes look slightly gazed. As though she was a blink away from crying.
She puts her hand over her mouth in shock seeing the blood I had lost, or the two black eyes that were forming. SHe clears her throat before she speaks and returns to holding a blank expression.
"Are you okay?" She simply asks.
"Yeah, my fucking fantastic Lexa. A perfect end to a perfect day. I wipe some blood from my nose with my shirt as I speak. Unable to stop the flow from dripping down my face.
"I'm sorry, okay. That shouldn't have happened to you. I didn't know that Harper was going to do that." I can't help but believe that she is telling the truth. But I don't accept her apology that easily. Scared that she will feel like she has power over me.
"Whatever Lexa. I expected nothing less from you and your friends" I spit out at her, almost too harshly.
I see anger flood her face.
