Chapter 9
Clarke POV
As the bell goes I say goodbye to Octavia and wonder where I should go and study. That's when I realise if Lexa is setting up early then I could go down to the field and give her her hoodie back.
I debated the idea for a moment, knowing that Harper and Anya could also be down there with her. Lexa might also get annoyed that I have disturbed her or I could embarrass her in front of everyone.
Get a grip and man up Clarke. I internally yell at myself.
I grow some balls and head towards the sports zone.
As I arrive I can see equipment out but no sign of Lexa, or anyone for that matter.
I stare at one of the soccer balls on the floor and look around me once more to check that there is no one around.
I place my bag down onto the floor and begin to do some keepy ups, then roll my foot around the ball before flicking it over my head and balancing it on the back of my neck.
Okay so I might be able to play soccer. Actually I was really good at soccer or football as I would have called it just a few weeks ago. Back home I had just been signed by Everton girls under 17's. But that dream was short-lived when my mum decided to completely unroot our lives. I keep playing with the ball, keeping it up before firing it at the goal. There is another ball nearby so I begin to play with that one.
I begin to get carried away, having fun. Part of me felt connected back to home again just by simply doing this. I felt comfortable and natural, something I hadn't quite felt at this school until now.
I got so into my skills that I hadn't noticed someone near the changing rooms studying my behaviour very closely.
Lexa POV
I had almost finished setting up the pitch for practice. The rest of the girls were still in the changing rooms having their team talk with the coach. I admired my handy work before realising that I had forgotten the bibs in the sports cupboard.
I headed back to begin to search for them, which wasn't an easy task as the boys team had left the place looking like a frat party had taken place. After about 10 minutes I find them, I notice that the coach is still going through different plays so I head back towards the field.
That's when I noticed someone on the field playing with the balls that I had carefully set up. I go to shout across the field to them and that's when I notice just who it is. The word shock is an understatement. It is Clarke!
Not only was Clarke playing with the ball but she was really amazing at soccer. I continue to watch her, admiring her body as well as her skills. How did she not mention this to me last night on the way home.
She had been sitting there whilst soccer practice had been taking place. I now wanted her in more ways than one. I wanted her on the team and I realised it would also allow me to spend more time with her, without Ayna and Harper getting suspicious. I could simply just say that it was for the good of the team.
I race back inside the locker room to grab coach Pike.
"Coach! Coach, you need to come and see this!" I pant after running enthusiastically into the room. I still couldn't believe that Clarke could play.
"Lexa, what is the matter girl?" Coach sounds annoyed that I have interrupted her.
"Coach, trust me, this is something you want to see, rather than hear about" I urge her to hurry up as Clarke could walk away from the field at any second.
"Fine but this better be good Woods. The rest of you wait here" Anya looks over at me extremely confused as Coach Pike stands up. Her and Harper still hadn't had a chance to ask me if I had spoken to Clarke about yesterday and I don't think my sudden burst into the locker room helped her worries.
"Everythings fine" I mouth to them both, before leading the coach towards the pitch.
I thank god as I look out and see Clarke still there. Showcasing her best moves to the empty stands. I see the annoyed look on Coach Pike;'s face disappear as she realises I may have solved the biggest problem currently on her mind, a new striker.
"What is that girl's name?" Coach Pike asks curiously.
"Griffin coach, Clarke Griffin" That most beautiful, amazing girl in the school I add on in my head.
Coach blows her whistle unexpectedly right down my ear.
"Griffin! Get your ass over here now!"
I see Clarke jump as she is broken out of her focused trance. She turns around and sees me standing next to the coach. She looks terrified.
