Chapter 10
Clarke POV
I jump as I hear my name shouted from the locker room exit. I let the ball hit the floor and slowly turn around. Knowing I am going to be in trouble.
When I spin around I am met with a pair of deep green eyes, looking at me in... admiration? I also notice that Coach Pike isn't looking pissed off, like I thought that he would be.
"Over here now!' I am ordered by Pike, I slowly approach the pair who are still staring at me.
"Sorry coach, I was just.." I try to explain but I am quickly cut off.
"You got some serious skills Griffin. Do you know that?" I find it hard to use my voice and look over to Lexa who has still not said anything and is still just staring at me, looking gobsmacked.
"You played soccer before?" He looks at me clearly expecting an answer this time.
"I played for Everton girls back in England before I moved here." I explain simply.
"Well consider yourself a part of this squad. Be at training after school tomorrow. Woods here will give you more details" With that he walks off before I even have time to reply to him.
I look at Lexa again expecting her to have a go at me for interrupting her training session or imposing on her turf. But she just looks at me and smiles. Her smile causes butterflies to erupt in my stomach and I once again push the feeling back down.
"He's right, you know. You are really good. Why didn't you say anything to me yesterday?" She moves closer to me waiting for an answer.
"I guess I.. .I guess I just sort of thought you wouldn't want me on the team. Or that I wasn't good enough for your team" I stutter out, fumbling over my own words.
"You are more than good enough, besides you look quite sexy playing around with that ball" She winks at me and I suddenly feel nervous. Lexa steps back misreading this clearly thinking I'm uncomfortable.
I decide to play with her to make her realise she hasn't "Hey, I told you yesterday Woods no matter how irresistible you normally are to the ladies. I won't be swinging your way" I poke her in the stomach, causing her to chuckle and I chuckle back at her. God her smile is just so beautiful. That way her hair sways when she tilts her head back laughing. I can understand why girls find their way into her bed so easily.
"I guess I better get going anyway. I have a class next period and you better get back to your training" I go to walk away but she grabs my arm to stop me. I feel goosebumps in the area that our skin connects.
"Wait.. why did you come down here? Looking for me where you" She winks at me, her confidence never failing her.
"Shit! I almost forgot" I grab my bag off the floor and take out Lexa's hoodie. Feeling slightly upset that I have to hand it back over. "I had a study period, so I came to give you this. Only if you were on your own though. Don't worry I wouldn't talk to you if you were with Harper of Anya" I pass it to her and she takes the hoodie out of my hands.
"Why not?" Lexa looks confused at my explanation.
"Well.. I don't know.. I wouldn't want to embarrass you... you probably don't want to be seen talking to me. They aren't exactly my biggest fans.. And you know we aren't exactly friends. I'm sure you were just being nice yesterday" I stumble once again over my words. Damn! Why does this girl make me so nervous?
"I'm not embarrassed talking to you Clarke" She looks at me, her face serious and she sounds sincere.
"Thankyou, but you don't have to say that" I softly smile at her and go to walk away again. But once again she grabs me, this time on my hand. Electricity sparks through my limb and as I look at Lexa I swear that she feels it too.
After what feels like an hour, even though it was just seconds in reality she lets go of my hand and speaks.
"Here I'll prove it, you can..."
"Lexa, you don't have to prove it" I interrupt her.
"Take this and wear it. Wear my football hoodie, it's got my number on so people will know it's mine" She shoves it back in my arms before I can even react. To be honest I'm too shocked to react.
"You don't have to wear it if you don't want to. But it's yours in case you do. Welcome to the teams Griffin" She winks at me again and walks away. Leaving me stood there in shock. Did Lexa Woods just give me her team hoody? Isn't that something you give to a girlfriend?
Shut up Clarke! You are overthinking as usual. I shove the hoodie back into my bag heading towards the library to actually do something productive with the remaining time of my study period.
Lexa POV
As I walk away from Clarke it kills me not to look back at her over my shoulder. But I could feel her staring at me as I walked away and I didn't want to appear too interested in her.
I strut back into the changing rooms as the coach is finished talking about plays. Anya looks at me questionly, clearly wondering where I have been. I guess Pike hasn't yet shared the news of our new player.
"Ah Woods, good of you to join us. Do you want to make the big announcement?" She stands up facing me and I hear whispering amongst the other members of the team. Only Anya and Harper glare at me.
"Sure, so ermm... " Come on Lexa I internally pep talk myself. I need to appear confident and strong, especially in front of these girls. MY team.
"We have a new player. A striker which is perfect for us. She will be joining us tomorrow after school for training..." I go to announce the name but Anya interrupts me.
"Who? Where has this magical player suddenly come from?" I can hear the sarcastic layering her voice as she questions me.
"Well if you let me finish!" I sternly reply causing her to sit back in her chair. She knows me too well not to anger me. "It's Clarke, Clarke Griffin"
Safe to say Anya and Harper looked less than pleased.
