It feels like it's been hours.

I've been sitting in this mansion for the entire afternoon, not a drop of alcohol in my system as a matter of fact! Didn't wanna make the preggo eggo jealous.

"So they just left you here to babysit me?" Hayley was probably as offended as I was.

"Unfortunately, but I mean...I kind of get it. Last time Klaus left you alone you wandered into the Quarter." Hayley looked down in guilt at my words. "Not that I'm justifying my brother's behavior, simply explaining how much of a paranoid bastard he can be. Though for future reference, you might want to stay away from any vampires." I say as I lift up her chin.

"Sorry, still getting used to being cared for by the strongest creatures in the world in the most dangerous place for me to be. I know, sounds like the perfect environment for a baby!" At her words, I bark out in laughter. Finally! Someone to say what I've been thinking this whole damn time!

Hayley's...fun. She's sassy and self-assured, yet not conceited. I can definitely see us getting along more.

"No need for apologies, Hayley. If I ever imagined babysitting a fully grown woman you'd be my first choice."

She cracked a small smile and a 'thanks' before returning her head in a downward position.

She can definitely be fun, but today she's been off.

Putting her head down constantly, as if she's lost in thought. With the year I've had, I know what it looks like to be trapped in your own head. After avoiding this for as long as I could, even I was getting bored.

"Is something bothering you? You can always talk to me, I have nobody to spread the gossip to." I was worried it'd be something like this morning, Elijah this and Elijah that.

"Nothing's bothering me." She said so quiet I had to stretch my vamp hearing.

"Don't you bloody start, Hayley Marshall! I know what avoidance looks like, trust me. However, you have something that I don't and will never be given: someone to listen! So chin up, and tell me who I have to kill, unless this is you still worrying about Elijah or something!"

She blinked at me from under her hair before taking a deep breath and making eye contact. "It's not Elijah. It's....my family." Her...who?

"What about them? Afraid I'm out of the loop here. Price of being late to the party." I'll say, I didn't even know she had been linked to some witch as the leverage they had to convince Klaus to do their bidding until she told me earlier.

Hayley looked conflicted, but eventually she answered, "When I was in Mystic Falls...with your brother....after....that....he noticed a birthmark on my shoulder, and....here I am! I've been searching for my family, the pack I came from, for so long. I thought I'd finally get answers here, instead I got a supernatural impossible pregnancy!" So she was an orphan? That actually explains a lot, and Klaus saw something and decided to be helpful? Would've loved to see that, but then again I don't think I'd want to be anywhere near that encounter.

Birthmark? It is true that werewolves can have some form of branding to differentiate packs, but I thought that was only for high ranking members? "May I take a look?" I asked carefully.

She hesitates, but turns around nonetheless, pulling down the sleeve on her right shoulder blade. I leaned in to see a small crescent moon laying atop the skin.

I immediately recognized it. "Yep! That's the mark of the crescent wolves alright! Klaus definitely sent you to the right place."

She slowly lifted her sleeve and turned around. "So there used to be wolves here?"
