Lyra's POV

I had probably bruised my arm so badly by now. I pulled the bowstring back and notched another ice arrow in the quiver. With my mastery over fog I had redirected my focus to ice.

It was a huge transition, going from invisible water to solid objects. The mist, and fog didn't want to condense and I realized how long this could take.

I'd been practicing with the invisible water molecules for years, so much so that it felt weird to shift my focus to a different place. But I did it by turning the fog to ice as a staircase into the air, so why was this so hard?

As time passes I ate my words,

Several times the ice bow would snap, or fracture in my hands, and snap back at me like a whip.

I could feel the hot blood trickle from my exposed skin when I was forced to stop because of the enormous aching in my arms, and wrists.

I had been practicing all morning, and I realized that Bato, and the group had left to go iceberg dodging without me.

I thought back to when Katara had interrupted my training some time earlier this morning, and asked if I wanted to go. I said no, iceberg dodging wasn't something I could do in that moment. I had been so close to forming the perfect bow.

I needed to try one more time. So, ignoring the ache in my arms as I focused the invisible water in the air to solidify into a longbow.

I notched another arrow, and pulled the icy silk-spider thin thread back until the bow felt like it was going to snap.

Remembering the motion dad had taught me, I kept my elbows at chin height, and released the icy arrow by its tail. The arrow curved slightly as the shaft spun, taking on speed, and securing itself on the spot directly next to my target.

I relaxed my arms, and dropped my hands to my side as joyful laughter spilled from my mouth. I leapt in the air, deeming the first successful shot from my bow a success, despite missing the target completely.

I immediately hissed, as I flexed the arm with the most damage from my bow practice and winced.

"I'm so gonna get a scolding" I groaned.

I nearly jumped back in surprise as I noticed Asura sleeping beside my lunch bag.

"Oh it's just you" I breathed in relief, and l pop myaughed to myself, and pressed a hand to my racing heart.

Asura hooted after noticing me, but gave a worried coo upon noticing my injuries. She approached me with her eyes in narrow slits.

She nipped my arm guard and pulled me to her level.

"What? What's got you upset? It's not bad, I promise" I said as I soothed Asura.

I could only cringe as her rough tongue scraped gently over the small scratch-like cuts.

I pulled my hand away, feeling bad but not as bad as it had when she attempted to clean the wounds.

She whimpered, and I brushed my uninjured hand through the fur on her head.

"Sorry, Baby, but that hurts" I winced.

I pulled back and grabbed my stuff, and Asura seemed to perk up upon hearing her stomach growl.

I too was hungry, and grabbed some berries from a tree only to discover them as lychee berries.

It was exactly what I needed so I ate berry after berry until I was certain that my stomach might pop. Dad had brought them back only once (when we lived in the South Pole), and only had enough to give my siblings, and I one of our own.

I remember it fondly,

We were traveling across the world, into earth kingdom territory. I wish I could say I remember it perfectly, but for a large majority of our travels I was either unconscious, or confined to my sleeping quarters. It wasn't even three weeks after I had been burned. My eyes were bandaged tightly, and my mental health had fallen to the wind that kept our boat moving. I had been deeply traumatized and my injury was at it's worst. Infection kept my face puffy, and painful.

I remember dad trying all sorts of things to comfort me. Keeping me wrapped up in blankets, giving me new foods to try, trying desperately to keep me entertained, teaching me braille, how to write in braille, and even ways to take care of important chores. He tried teaching me to cook but the second he had lit the stove, and I heard the fire roar, and felt the heat on my face, I scrambled away, as if I had just put my hand in its center.

He didn't do it again, and I remained terrified of the fire for years. He never lit it by me, and avoided anything having to do with fire. I remember being terrified of the fire, and scrambling back into the water we drifted through. I remember splashing the water desperately, and found myself mysteriously back on the boat, the strand of white hair poking out like a reminder to what I was.

The things that I grew comfort from was the icy cloths placed on my fevered head, the treats he brought me, and the feeling as the infection was driven away as the elders at the abbey neutralized the burning infection, and the small treats my beside nurse gave me in secret.

I returned to the abbey with a small satisfied smile. Asura had taken off to find some food to hunt for, and I found to my enormous shock that Appa was gone.

"Lyra! There you are!" Came Bato's voice, "I was worried sick about you!" He exclamation anxiously.

I tilted my head in confusion,

"Where's Aang? And Sokka, and Katara?" I asked sounding dangerously angry, "where are they?" I demanded, my voice was a low, cold hiss.

Bato paled, seeming suprised,

"Aang left"
