Lyra's POV

The two had immediately begun to compliment each other as we watched on,

"We finally got the war balloon working, thanks to Sokka. This boy's a genius!" The inventor stated as he motioned to Sokka proudly. Sokka being himself only turned the compliment around,

"Thank you. You're a genius" Sokka stated bashfully as I turned to face Katara in exasperation.

"Thank you!" was the inventors response as he went over the invention.

"See, the problem with the old war balloon was, you could get it airborne" Sokka motioned placing a candle in the balloon which began to rise to the ceiling "but once you did, it just kept going" Sokka explained as I tilted my head in curiosity.

"How did you fix it then?" I questioned curiously as I moved my figetting to my wrist bands.

"That's what we were asking ourselves" Sokka answered, "We knew if you put a hole in it the hot air would escape-"

"And it would drop!" The inventor finished for him.

I nodded and scratched my chin as I thought up a solution before deciding to let them answer it.

"So the question became, how do you keep a lid on hot air?" Sokka continued as he pulled the prototype down.

"Ugh, if only we knew" Katara answered sarcastically as Aang laughed with her.

"A lid is actually the answer" Sokka stated.

"What? But what about an air seal so air doesn't leak out?" I questioned, if it didn't seal properly it'd become a huge problem, as you'd literally be falling from the sky to your death.

Sokka motioned for me to quiet down,

"We actually considered that, so we made sure that the base of the lid was heavy so that it rested on the top and couldn't be pushed up with the hot air, as long as you control the lid, you control the war balloon" Sokka summarized.

I nodded in approval as Aang, Katara, and Teo nodded, clearly impressed.

"Hmmm, that's actually pretty smart" Katara stated, seeming proud.

"Okay, we've got four kinds of bombs-Smoke, Slime, Fire-"

"-And stink! Never underestimate the power of stink!" the inventor interrupted and I nodded in agreement.

"It does work" I agreed as I wafted the air away from my nose as I remembered the stink bomb incident with my first skunk bomb in the south.

"Is the balloon ready yet?" I questioned in concern as Sokka shook his head,

"No, but it will be in the next few hours, we just need to finish with the fire engine" Sokka reassured me.

I nodded as I turned to exit with the other. I raised my hand up for Sokka,

"you're doing good" I reassured Sokka as he started to shake from nerves as he dropped his strong composure.

He gave me a smile which I barely saw and nodded,

"You too" he smiled in reassurance,

"Now, go get some sleep, you two. The battle is tomorrow at late morning, I'll wake you two up a few hours before the sun rises" I stated as an order.
