chapter 13 Lonan

Feeling disappointed at Alex turning down my offer it felt I was even more alone... finalising the last pieces of work I remembered Linda's happiness tonight at a very small gesture yet she was the happiest I had ever seen her.

"Alex" she came back through the door

"Can I have a hug?" Stood there in a oversized jumper and red bottoms, hair in a messy pony tail.

"Course" I replied but I didn't move at all and for once in long time I felt nervous. She stood staring at me looking as pretty as she was but she didn't know it. This girl wants me to hug her but it's like I didn't know how.

"Come over here then" the words followed out,I rolled my chair back and she slowly drifted to me, sat on my lap and curled up in my arms resting her head in the crock of my neck. Savering this moment I closed my eyes and hugged her tight just like she asked.. Pulling my arms tight around her linking my fingers.

The feeling of a stiff neck woke me up with a very numb arm, realising we had both fallen asleep in my office chair.. trying to move my neck without waking Alex I just about moved and managed to keep her in my grip as I stood to my feet. With my back tight and my arm numb still I walked to the bedroom, I pulled the duvet over and closed the door. with a massive sigh I laid back on my bed with my hands behind my head. What actually happened tonight played over and over my mind but did anything happen at all.

Morning already not that I slept, slapped cold water in my face to wake myself up. Packed a few items to take to mums, got dressed and went down stairs. SIpping my coffee as I quickly checked my work emails.

"Its Saturday and your checking work emails" she appeared happily

"Morning.. " I smiled at Alex who was up and dressed, hair all bouncy and half tyded up at the back with a clip. Her make up was flawless and her eyes were sparkling. Over the last few days she hasn't looked that happy.

"coffee"

"No got one.. when you going?"

"Soon.. you"

"After this coffee." I turned my attention back to my emails trying to ignore my awkward feeling and studying her image

"can I take that offer of lift from you?"

"Sure.. " I felt happier for a strange reason that I was taking her, what is going , on with me.. I put my bag in the boot, my phone started ring and as soon as I saw who it was I knew my day was only going to get worse. I kept my tone low.

"Hello...... calm down.... Sarah you left I didn't.... What you cheated... you left... I didn't push you away you stopped loving me so I stopped loving you.... right are you sure about that.... No I owe more of this house and by the way your car too.......... Yeah your car but you can keep that.... so I worked hard to where I got too at work.. so what I worked late but don't you think I knew where you were when I did work late.. and why I worked more late huh???......... you can have ago at me all you like but the truth is you will not be getting anything from me, from my house, or my assists considering you left and you cheated... Sarah read my solicitor letter again yeah..... What?? She's a friend... Yeah she needs somewhere to stay....... No Sarah... I am not banging her and anyway even if i was do you really think I stoop so low to tell you the details............... well thank god she feels safe in my arms Sarah because you never did clearly............. Sarah Sarah listen to yourself yeah... you lost this life and you know what thank you.... Yeah thank you for leaving because now I'm better than ever have been..." I cut the call short, actually feeling good for once in a while felt great.

"Ready" I asked Alex who was standing behind me, unsure if she hard what I said

"Sarah?" She quizzed me

"Yep... Ready"

"Yep.. say much?" he smiled at me

"Nah.. she's angry at my solicitor letter"

We were nearly at her parents when I could see she was anxious...

"You know you need to tell the truth.."

"I know..."

"It will be fine..you can call me anytime ill pick you up"

"My knight in shining armorr aren't you?" She playfully nudged me. but what she didn't know was my heart Panged like a harp being played

"Any time.." I pulled up & Her mum came out to see her. I watched them embrace in my mirror. There's that feeling again the heaviness. Before I knew it I was sitting in mum driveway, my brother car was here and my sisters. Taking a few minuets to myself I checked for any texts but nothing.

"Darling your here" Mum came dashing towards me with her arms open wide.

"Mum.." Her hug felt warm but my phone started to ring and I had to answer it, everything went in slow motion.. panic struck me when I heard the tears, I couldn't have run to my car fast enough or drive fast enough, kept calm all that way, that's when I realized.

"Stay where you are...... im coming... I won't be long.... stay there..... mum I got go I'll be back"

Ignition on.. roaring of the engine was loud.
