Chapter 29

Jo's pov

I've finally decided what I want to do with some of the money that Martha and George gave me and that is to spend it on the summer of our lives. We've got the cabin booked until the end of July so having an epic 4th of July bash is a must. Hero's Ford Capri is already packed with all our clothes, hygiene products, and some food. We decided if we needed anything else we would just buy it in the town near the beach houses.

We are currently driving with Felix and Mercy following behind us in her Mustang convertible. We decided it would be better to have two cars instead of one in case we wanted to do stuff separately. Well actually Hero decided and we all just agreed knowing it was no use starting our summer in an argument over something so petty. Obviously I want this summer spent with my friends as well as my fiance. My fiance. I still can't get over calling Hero that. Mercy has been pestering me with the when and what of the wedding but I want to spend this last summer worry free. Besides I want a Summer wedding so it will have to wait til next year even though I know Hero would marry me tomorrow. I want to take my time with this and having a year to plan everything out sounds more than reasonable. I just hope he doesn't mind waiting another year.

"What are you thinking of love" Hero asks turning the radio down as he casts his greenish-blue eyes over at me his eyebrows furrowed questionably. "Just everything" I say not going into detail as I smile at him his hand now resting on my thigh as the other expertly maneuvers the steering wheel through the curves of the road. "Like?" he says pestering me to go further as he squeezes my thigh. "The best summer of our lives baby" I say laughing as he rolls his eyes. "I hope not we have about 50 plus summers in store for us" he replies chuckling. He's right and besides next summer will be the most rememberal when he's finally my husband and I'm his wife. "Your right" I say smiling at him as we get closer to the cabin the salty air hitting my nostrils as I inhale deeply the memories of us coming here as children flash through my mind. And that's when I remember the treasure chest we buried near the palm tree in the back yard.

"Hero we have to dig up the treasure chest" I squeak in excitement as he pulls into the front driveway. The blue and white cabin looks exactly the same as he looks at me and says "what treasure chest?" Does he seriously not remember? Granted it's been ten years I wonder if it's even still there or if another family dug it up and found it. "Forget it you men never remember shit" I say giggling a little as I jump out the car. Mercy and Felix already grabbing their stuff from her car. "Ok then" Hero chuckles as he starts grabbing our things and I grab my suitcase and say to Mercy "sis we need to find the treasure" knowing she'll know exactly what that means. She starts jumping up and down excitedly as she yells "oh my god yes we can start digging as soon as we get settled." "What are you to on about?" Felix asks us as he looks at us curiously. "Some treasure chest bro apparently they buried one here" Hero says shrugging making me want to smack him upside his head. Seriously men can't remember shit. "Oh the one we buried near the palm tree out back" Felix says excitedly. Ok I take that back, some men can't remember shit. He's lucky I love him. "See he remembers" I say giving Hero a look as he unlocks the cabin door. "I remember now I thought of it more like a time capsule so when you said treasure chest I was lost" he says giving me a small smile. "It was definitely a treasure chest" Mercy says to which I agree too making Felix and Hero chuckle as they put our suitcases into our rooms.

After we have put all the food and drinks in the fridge and cupboards. Got our clothes that needed to be hung in the closets with the rest in the bureaus and put our hygiene products in our respective bathrooms we all decided to eat before we dug up the treasure chest. "I don't even remember what I put in that thing" Hero says laughing as we eat our sandwiches and chips. "I'm not surprised" I say sarcastically rolling my eyes as I giggle at him taking a sip of my water. "Oh yeah well I have you to remind me of everything now so don't worry about me" he says grinning at me as he takes a sip of his sprite.

We quickly cleaned up and headed out to the backyard the patio set up exactly like I had remembered it with the table and chairs, the fire pit, pool and jacuzzi. It was like stepping back into time and I was 8 all over again. "Let's start digging" Mercy says grabbing a small shovel she found near the rest of the beach toys left over from previous guests. "Me first" I say excitedly as Hero smiles at me grabbing another shovel out of the pile and handing it to me. Me and Mercy quickly make way and start digging on opposite sides of the palm tree not remembering exactly which area we had buried it under. I smile when my shovel hits something hard and I pull out the old metal lunchbox we had used as our treasure chest. "Found it" I say happily as I hold the lunchbox up for them to see. "Let's open it then yeah" Hero says looking excited as I nod my head and we all move to the patio deck and sit down around the table.

I'm the first to find it so I take it upon myself to unlatch the lid and open the box smiling as the rest of us pull out various things we thought were important for future generations to have. "My signed baseball" Hero says proudly showing it off. "You only put that in because a soccer ball wouldn't fit" Felix says laughing as he grabs his old West Ham hat out of the box putting it on his head. "True" Hero says chuckling. "Look it's our friendship bracelets" Mercy says smiling as she hands me mines the pink and purple rope slightly frayed at the edges. "What's this?" Hero asks taking a piece of paper out of the box as he starts to unfold it I realize what it is and go to snatch it out his hand but he's too fast and pulls back as he starts to read out loud "Jo and Mercy's Summer bucket list." He looks over at me smirking and I know where his mind is going because after Mercy went to bed I had added a little something at the end of our list.

"Oh my god we so need to do these" Mercy says excitedly as she starts to read off the things we wanted to do before we became adults. Technically we are a little late since we are eighteen but hey that doesn't mean we can't still do these and have the best summer ever. "This one we could get arrested for" Felix says laughing as he points to the one of us swimming naked under the moon. "Only if we get caught" Hero says smirking as he winks at me. "Win a gocart tournament" Felix says questionably looking at us. "We love racing so shoot us" Mercy says giggling. "What's this one here? I don't remember having 11" Mercy asks looking down at the last item on our list as she starts to laugh while reading it she looks at me and says "seriously Jo you were 8 and you already wanted to marry Hero?" "Guess that's one thing on the bucket list I can check off soon" I say smiling at them. "How soon?" Hero asks excitedly as he looks at me with love filled eyes. "Soon enough I love you Hero" I say as he leans over and gives me a kiss and says "I love you more baby always."

The rest of the night was spent planning out ways to do everything on the list and have an epic bash at the beach house. Finally we went to bed where me and Hero made love til we were both so exhausted we collapsed in each other's arms our limbs tangled together as we fell asleep. This was going to be one amazing Summer.

A/N sorry it's shorter than usual but I just started work and I'm still using this p.o.s phone and wanted to give you an update.
