Liam sat up with a jolt to be greeted with Annie's mane of red, curly hair. He let out a sigh of relief.
"Annie, what are you doing in here?!", he asked in alarm.
"A better question is 'why do you have a girl in your bed and why are you kissing her?' ", she asked with her giggle lingering in her soft voice, pairing her innocence in a flattering way.
Liam couldn't tell her what had happened. He simply couldn't.
"She just needed a place to stay for tonight, I was giving her a kiss goodnight, like how dad kisses you goodnight."
Annie nodded her small head in understanding. "I get it, it's hard to sleep without kisses." Good, it sounded like she believed him.
"Go back to bed, Annie.", Liam said in relief. He was glad that the knot in his chest was untangling and the butterflies in his stomach were fluttering back into their cocoons.
"I can't sleep!", she exclaimed.
"Then count some sheep, that'll do it."
"Fine.", she said stubbornly. She lagged back on into her room.

The next day, Liam ate breakfast without hesitation, rushing madly. He had May in his closet and planned to give her some cereal that they had plenty of. He was thinking of how to reveal to his parents that there was a new occupant in the old home.
Well, he was thinking of how to do so before Annie did it for him.
"You seem tired, sweetheart.", Liam's stepdad mentioned to Annie.
"I went to Liam's room last night because I couldn't sleep. I wanted to sleep in his bed with him but there was already a girl in it, so there was no room!", she said, upset.
Liam tried to stop her but it was already too late. Everyone in the room was already looking at him in disbelief.
"Liam, what is Annie talking about?", his mother said, a clearly flustered expression planted on her face, which was typically quite neutral. Liam knew that she might just get the chancla out of her closet. Every Hispanic knew of the poor fate.
"I uhm. . .", Liam trailed off. He began to prepare for the pain until his stepfather intervened.
"María, Liam is a teenage boy. We need to let him have fun, he is learning and growing.", he said with his great maturity reflecting in his voice.
"Tucker, he snuck out and got a girl!"
"Let him explain, please.", he said as he looked at Liam, waiting for the explanation that he previously mentioned.
"It's May Volkov. The girl I grew up with and always competed with on getting the best grades. She had family issues and had to leave home, she didn't have a place to go so I gave her one.", Liam said as he let out all of the breath he had been holding throughout the interaction. Of course the reason she didn't have a place to go wasn't an entire lie, but it wasn't the entire truth either.
"I got her while I was walking Daisy last night," he added for good measures.
"See María, his explanation is valid. It seems to be truthful," he looked at Liam. "Is she still here?"
Liam nodded, unable to speak at this point.
"Where at?", his mother asked. Tucker was always able to calm her down. It was almost phenomenal in a way. Tucker Dalton; miracle worker.
"Closet. . .", Liam mumbled. That was the most he could get out. The idea of constructing an entire sentence was astronomical to him at the moment.
His mother started to rush up the stairs and to his room. Liam panicked. That was, until Tucker went after her. Liam knew that he could contain her in his special charm. He rushed up after them.
The closet door swung open as Liam came into the room. He saw May jump with her face paler than usual.
"Mrs. Dalton!", she exclaimed. It was still weird to Liam that his mother's surname was no longer Pérez.
"Miss Volkov!", his mother said with a friendly grin.
"Who are you and what have you done with my mother?", Liam asked in shock.
His mother only gave him a playful slap on the arm, otherwise ignoring him.
"You can stay with Annie in her room, we don't have an extra bedroom. And it's preferred that you two don't get into any funny business.", his mother said with a smirk.
Liam felt his cheeks burn into a lovely shade of pink as Tucker let out a chuckle.
May giggled. "Of course, it's not an issue at all."
Mrs. Franklin clapped her hands twice.
"Chop, chop! School starts in just twenty minutes!"

After school, Liam noticed Caroline and May discussing something that seemed to be serious. He remembered the kiss. Oh, the kiss. He hoped that May didn't tell her about it. Caroline could easily beat him in a fight.
He noticed a sudden change in Caroline's expressions. She went from neutral, all the way down the scale to absolutely heartbroken. He couldnt help but wonder what she was just told.
Before he knew it, he saw her run off from May. He finally put it together. She must've broken up with her. But why?
And May came to answer that question for him. May herself, was in a Place of Emotions.
"Liam, I broke up with her for you."
