Liam awoke abruptly from his nightmares the following morning in a pool of his own sweat. He knew that he needed to calm himself. But he also knew that he had to put together what had happened the previous night. So he decided on a combination of the two.
He forced himself to rise from his bed that was still soaking in his sweat, and get dressed. He decided on a pair of light khakis and a plaid-patterned sweater that Annie had gifted him for Christmas. He loved and appreciated the sweater, as it reminded him of the little red-headed girl.
His next move was to pick a place to go; a Place of Calmness. Liam thought and thought about this next action. Until he finally pinpointed a logical place to plant himself for the next few hours.
Maybe the spot of Nathan's death would allow him luck in trying to piece this all together.
What could this do to him mentally? Emotionally? Liam didn't know. All he knew was that he wanted to figure this out. Maybe Nathan's clever spirit could partake, as well.
How silly of Liam. Ghosts don't exist.
Liam finally toughed it out and started torwards the moat. He was tired, so he considered coffee. But he then remembered that he had never enjoyed coffee, but envied May for being able to do so. His mind wandered to the part that belonged to May until he reached the man-made body of water.
His mind began to flood with negative thoughts from the day that destroyed his mental and emotional health. The day that went down in history for The Academy. The day that May lost a lover and her well-being.
This only reminded Liam of how much he hurt May. The poor, innocent girl. But the worst things happened to the best people, right?
No, that couldn't be true. If so, then why did all of these horrible things happen to Liam? He didn't view himself as a great person. Not even close to it. Possibly mediocre at best.
Liam began to think. He wanted to uncover the mystery behind the lizards. Preferably, he would also like to uncover how the school was rebuilt so quickly.
Liam carefully watched as a swarm of crocodiles began to fight for a dead bird. Those crocodiles had Nathan's flesh once, are they still hungry for more?
Or did they have Nathan's flesh? Liam didn't know anymore.
Before his chaotic mind could wander elsewhere, he heard a familiar voice come from behind him.
"The crocodiles hunger for flesh is fascinating at times, isn't it?"
He felt his heart skip a beat before he turned around to be faced with Headmaster.
"Ah, Mr. Pérez. I figured that it was you. Of course, I couldn't exactly tell by only your back side," Headmaster told him.
Liam thought that he was acting too casual.
"Yes, of course," he choked out.
"No need to be so fearful, punishment only takes place when you are out of my carefully assembled line. I'm sure you know that from first hand experience."
Liam felt the stinging of the lemon juice searing into his tanned skin. He shuddered.
"Of course I do, sir.", Liam said in attempt to make 'sir sound respectful. It was difficult, as he had lost his respect for him a long time ago.
Headmaster only chuckled.
"I know that you know about my precious creatures, the hyrimdote.", he told Liam.
Liam figured that those were the lizards; the hyrimdote. He only let himself give a slow nod.
"I'm sure you're curious about them, Mr. Pérez."
"I am," Liam told him with great confidence reflecting in his deep voice.
"Well, you're smart. I'll let you piece it together after I give you this small piece of information," Headmaster told him, also with confidence reflecting through his own deep voice.
Liam gave Headmaster another nod.
"Nathan Baker never died," was all he was told. Headmaster merely walked away.
Liam felt every muscle in his body tense. He never killed Nathan. This should give him relief, shouldn't it? Yes, it should. So why is he tense?
Liam sat there in shock, mouth slightly opened. He looked down at the swarm of crocodiles, now enjoying their meal that consisted of the previously mentioned bird. Liam felt his head pounding, blood surging, and his insides sqsquirming. Nathan never died, repeated in his hurting head.
Liam finally figured ot all out.
Nathan's eyes and hair were on the hyrimdote. Students were missing.
They were turning their own students into the murderous lizards.
