Liam felt himself panic. Was Headmaster closely watching his actions? Is that why he was at the moat with him? Was Liam next?
That couldn't possibly be it. Right?
He needed another brilliant mind or two to work with, and he knew who right away.
No other than May and Jules could line up with that description.
Liam began to walk to May's precisely neat dorm room. Since she had no more than a couple of clothing articles now, it was freakishly hollow in her dorm.
He knocked on the cherry-wood door.
"Come in!", he heard her soothing voice call out kindly.
He pushed open the carefully carved door. Liam was immediately greeted with the feeling of scrawny arms around him, a head of thick, brown hair in his face, and the familiar scent of ripe, chopped strawberries.
He didn't have to look to see who had just greeted him, he only hugged the familiar figure back, his hands running up and down the back that he was so scared of breaking with a hug that's just a little too tight one day.
Was May losing weight?
Before his mind could answer that question, he heard a girlish clear of the throat. He lifted his brunette head to see the face of the second person he was looking for; Jules.
"I didn't see you there," Liam told the familiar face.
"Maybe you would've if little miss obsessive wasn't drowning you in her hair," she joked.
Liam felt a shiver race down his spine at the word 'drowning.' His head was a Place of Hoplessness. He could connect any word to any death.
Or a supposed death.
"Yeah, maybe I would've," he joked back with a charming smile at his girlfriend.
"My sincerest apologies for loving you, Liam," she smiled back.
Liam felt a quick surge of happiness run through his thin frame until he remembered why he was there.
"I have to explain this to you. And I need input on it."
He told them every little detail. He felt a bit psychotic for looking for any sign of pain in May's eyes at the mention of Nathan, but only saw her usual determination. He admired how she could store rotting memories in the back of her mind in times like these. He almost envied it, but did not. Envying somebody was something that he despised.
Liam wasn't envious of anyone, he just didn't want to be himself anymore.
He allowed his mind to go absent whilst explaining everything to Jules and May, that was the only way he could not feel a burning pain in his chest, a tight feeling in his stomach, or the feeling of his throat constricting itself, which was far too familiar to him.
After he was finished explaining, he carefully examined the faces of the girls, looking for any signs of knowledge on the situation.
"Perhaps there is a hole at the bottom of the moat that leads to a basement or something at the bottom of the school," May mentioned after at least fifteen minutes of silence and three thinking brains.
"But where did the blood come from?", Liam said, "Who's blood could that of been?"
Jules scrunched her nose as if she had just smelled something foul. Her typical focused expression.
She snapped her fingers. "I've got it. Now, we know that Headmaster is a very intelligent man, correct?", she glances at Liam and May's heads bobbing in agreement.
"What if the crocodiles aren't real? Like, they're robots. The attack could've been disguised as an attack, but in reality, Nathan could've been perfectly fine."
"And the blood?", Liam asked.
Jules had to think for a moment before she could add onto her theory.
"It could've been fake. What if the crocodiles have a water gun sort of thing imbedded into them that shot out fake blood instead of water?", Jules finally added. "I know that this sounds crazy! But Headmaster could've easily constructed those robots. He is a very clever man, and we all know it."
Liam let himself process for a moment.
"Let's move on to a different area of this, shall we? The Hyrimdote. How did they come into existence?"
"This could go hand-in-hand with Jules's theory in a way. As she previously mentioned, Headmaster is very intelligent. So he could've simply made a vaccine or something along those lines to turn his students into those horrendous creatures," May said with refusal to mention them by their respective names.
Liam wouldn't want to either if he had been nearly killed by them.
"Both theories could be true, but how could we possibly find out?", Liam asked. He felt bad that he hadn't come up with any of these brilliant ideas. He was the one who approached May and Jules, not to mention, he had also dragged them into his hot mess of a situation.
Jules sighed. "I don't know how. The only way I can actually think of is to try to find out ourselves. Like, following Headmaster and examining the crocodiles," she stood up from her criss-cross sitting position. "I'm going to head off to bed," she told them. "Don't get too crazy," she added with a smirk as she left the plain room.
Liam looked over to see May blushing, a cloud of light pink elegantly brushing over her pale cheeks.
"Don't worry, May. I won't go to hard on you," he joked with a wink. Before he knew it, there was a pink mark on his arm from May's hand, it almost matched her cheeks that had turned into a deeper shade of pink from his flirtatious comment.
"No!", is all she had to say.
Liam watched her clear the several open books off of her bed while he laughed, her and Jules must of been having a study session before he had interrupted.
He felt his own cheeks go pink as May shamelessly stripped out of her school uniform and into her pajamas.
"Sorry," she told him with no hint of being sorry in her eyes, voice, or body. She must of been getting him back for his previous comment.
Liam only chuckled.
"Are you really going to make this a competition? You're childish, May Volkov," he told her.
"Hey! You're just as childish!", she replied as she sat on her tightly made bed.
Liam sat next to her. "It's one of my defining qualities," before May could reply, he cut her off with a kiss.
He gently wrapped his arms around her waist as he pulled her into a laying position on her neatly made bed before pulling back from the gentle kiss.
May smiled at him as she pulled the covers over the two of them.
"Goodnight, Liam."
"Goodnight, May."
