The Place of Boredom

Jules laid with her eyes resting on the ceiling, refusing to look anywhere but there. She was in a Place of Boredom.

Her older brother walked in with an obnoxiously loud stride. Jules automatically assumed that it was to annoy her.

"Jordan, go away! I'm not in the mood!"

"You just got mail, snippy."

He threw an envelope onto her bed. Jules began to have a staring contest with it, not wanting to read whatever the envelope was hugged around.

She eventually gave up and aggressively ripped it open.

The handwriting was writing that she had recognized, but from where? It was neat and prestigiously written. Jules went under her bed and grabbed her scholarship letter that she received from The Academy only four years ago.

It was Headmaster's handwriting. Thoughts started to flood Jules's mind. Why was he writing to her in particular? Was The Academy reopening? Jules hoped. Oh, she hoped. Of course, there was so many bad things happening there, but she wanted to get to the bottom of it all. What where the murderous lizards that Liam and May told her about? How did they come into existence? Who was Headmaster? She had so many questions that she was eager to get answered by going back to The Academy.

But surely they couldn't be reopening that quickly. If they rebuilt the humongous castle-like school in only a couple months, then that would be almost magical.

Jules finally sucked it up and began to read the letter.

Jules A. Ramos,
We are happy to inform you that the beloved Academy will be reopening next September. Since you have already proved yourself, you will not need to repeat the process of doing so. You will be transported straight to The Academy. All of the same rules apply. We look forward to seeing you on September 1st, 1992 for the 1992-1993 school year.

-Headmaster

Jules re-read the letter multiple times before she could comprehend the words cautiously written in black ink. How could they be reopening after only 6 months? She sat in her own thoughts for a lengthy period of time before she eventually decided to push them to the back of her mind. She knew she needed to buy some new things to take with her, so she made the decision to get a head start on doing so. She pulled on some thin black tights, a beige pleated skirt, a white dress shirt, and a plaid sweater vest. She pulled on her favorite black dress shoes, grabbed her wallet, and proceeded to the kitchen, where her mother was making something for dinner.

"I'm going to buy school supplies," Jules said as she handed her mother the letter for an explanation.

Her mother mirrored the reaction that Jules had to receiving the unlikely letter.

After what felt like hours of her mother re-reading the letter and attempting to comprehend it, she handed it back to Jules.

"Of course, lovely. Be safe."

Jules nodded and headed out of the plain, wooden front door.

She proceeded to walk to the town's small book store. They typically sold incredible, hand-crafted pencils and smooth paper, so Jules decided to start there.

She pushed open the wooden door and looked around the extravagant store. Well, not so extravagant to many, but it was to her. The worn-down bookshelves were adorned with books, the books dressed in a thin layer of dust on their old covers. The golden, yellow-ish lights brushed the bookshelves with a dim glow. The dark, wooden floors were pierced with holes and scratches from so much use, stained beanbags and wobbly chairs resting ontop of the damaged floors.

It was a second home. She had always loved it there. It was a lovely, small-town bookstore that she had always appreciated. She was their most frequent customer, hands down.

"Ah, hello sweetheart," the shopkeeper greeted her. Her personality always reminded Jules of a cinnamon roll. Warm, sweet, wholesome, and everyone loves her. Who couldn't love a sweet old lady like Mrs. Lanky?

"Hello, Mrs. Lanky," Jules replied. "Do you mind if I stick around to just read today? I promise I will buy school supplies afterwards."

"Oh, of course, Jules. Stay as long as you feel. I made an extra cup of coffee in hopes that I would see you today," she handed Jules a room temperature cup of black coffee along with a warm smile.

Jules gladly excepted the coffee, despite the fact that that did not enjoy coffee all that much.

"Thank you," she told Mrs. Lanky with a gracious smile.

She then proceeded to go to the history section, she was in the mood to read about the Civil War in particular. That specific piece of history always had her going back to it.

She took her favorite book on the subject and sat down in her favorite beanbag chair in the dark corner of the store. It was secluded and private, and almost never occupied. Jules loved the privacy since she didn't receive it very often at home.

Hours often passed while Jules attempted to finish the 500-page book in one go. And that rapturous was not an exception.

But, her third hour of reading was interrupted by the ringing of a small bell, indicating that someone has entered the store.

Jules looked up to see the new visitor. A boy with dirty blonde hair, pale, clear skin without a freckle in sight, and bright green eyes that popped with his matching green dress shirt had entered the small shop. She recognized him as the boy from her district who was picked to go to The Academy only a year before she was chosen. She believed that his name was Aziel Gry.

His green irises examined the store and landed on Jules. He began to pace over to her.

"I think you've got my spot," Aziel spoke up to her.

"Well you're going to have to find a new spot. You're not that special, and I was here first. Therefore, shoo," Jules spoke to him in a condescending tone.

Aziel only let out a chuckle. "You're very condescending, Ramos.", he said as the sarcasm in his voice grew with every word he spoke. He finally walked off with his long stride.

Jules rolled her eyes and continued to read for another hour, until it was almost time for closing. She put her book back where it belonged and got a pack of paper. She looked for pencils until her hazel eyes eventually caught them on the top shelf. She reached for a pack of twelve, but couldn't seem to reach. She began jumping for them until she spotted a masculine hand appear above her and grab a pack. The hand placed the pencils into her smaller hand. Jules whirled around only to see Aziel Gry looking back at her.

"I could've retrieved those by myself."

Aziel just looked at her with a smirk. "I'm sure you could've," he said with his signature sarcasm.

Jules only ended the conversation by striding away, paying, and walking home.

She went to her bedroom and closed the door behind her as she let out a giddy giggle.

Hello loves! My apologies for a sorta boring chapter. I suppose the action in the chapter matches the title, haha!

Please read this next paragraph for some info on updates and such.

I'm very sorry to inform you guys that I'm gonna have to take a bit of a hiatus. It should only last about a month. It is not because of school to be honest. If youve talked to me in my dms, then you probably know that I'm a competitive dancer and I'm in an All-State choir. A lot of stuff is happening with those things for the next month, and I won't have time to update. I'm sorry. I just don't wanna spread myself too thin.

Requests are still open! I hope to see you in the next chapter! Happy reading~!
