Liam gapped at the brunette girl.
"May, absolutely not! There are better ways to go about this," Jules broke the deafening silence.
"Like what?", May asked, condescending.
The deafening silence rose between the trio once again.
"Exactly," she spoke. "I'll go first, if I don't make it out alive, then you guys don't have to go. But, if I do, we'll do more exploring.", she said, almost matter-of-factly, as if this was a classroom discussion.
Liam sighed, knowing how determined May had always been. He knew that there was no way she was backing down now that the idea was in the air.
"I guess I can't necessarily stop you, then," Liam choked out.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go to the bridge," May stared at Jules and Liam with intensity in her eyes. Passion. Eagerness. Knowledge.
Liam let out a sigh. The sigh came from the bottom of his stomach, through his esophagus, and slipped through his pink lips. To him, it felt like the only sigh that he had truly felt something whilst sighing. A true sigh.
May stood up along with Liam, and Jules followed soon after. Slowly, her movements precise and smooth; she almost seemed to be procrastinating in a way.
"Okay, I have a plan," May told them as they started towards the moat. "Jules, you're going to go to the library, and stand by the bookshelf. If we are correct, and the moat does lead to the tunnel, then I'll come and open the door. If I'm not there within a half an hour, then I'm most likely dead."
May talking about her own death in such a calm manner sent a bolt of shivers down Liam's spine.
Jules slowly nodded and headed to the library, where the Algebra books laid neatly positioned on the shelf, untouched.
"Liam, watch for blood in the moat."
Liam didn't want to see May's death play out just as Nathan's had. He didn't want to watch as the cold waters turned crimson. Crimson like when you pour a Kool-aid packet into water. . . Except, it would be worse than simply pouring a Kool-aid packet into water. It would be her blood. Hers. He didn't want to watch helplessly as the moat turned into a Place of Crimson Ripples.
May took notice of Liam's look of despair.
"Liam, I'm doing this for the sake of everyone. It's best to find this out, to try to obtain this information," she placed a consoling hand on his shoulder as they stopped over the moat.
Liam glanced sideways, looking at the extravagant railing, attempting to focus on that instead of what was about to happen.
"I know, May. I just want you to know that I love you. And that will never change," Liam felt his eyes gloss over with tears as he croaked out his words.
"I love you too, Liam," May choked out as she planted a soft kiss onto Liams lips.
Everything flashed before Liam's eyes. May getting thrown out into the ocean. Him saving her. The trio getting chosen to go to The Academy. May getting dragged away by the disgusting no-eyed creature. Himself and May getting punished. Nathan falling over the railing. The water turning crimson. The Academy being bombed. May telling him to stay away from her in the hospital. Their first kiss. And possibly their last.
Before Liam could complete going through his memories, he heard a cracking splash, and watched, yet again, as the waters turned crimson.
