Chapter 4. Because I Can

Jared couldn't sleep. He awoke in the middle of the night, and checked his phone.

He had a lot on his mind, Anthony being the first. He decided he was going to check on Katrina, since he knew; Being her insomnia buddy, she would be up.

He got up, and walked up the stairs. Once he stopped at the guest room, he looked down, and could see the lamp light on.

His knock was slow and quiet.

It took Katrina a minute but she opened the door slowly. The stair light was on, and she could see Jared's somber face.

"We meet again stranger." She purred.

He rolled his eyes and played along with her. "I know; We have to stop meeting like this.. The hubby might catch us one day."

He whispered, in his classy voice.

"Well if we ever get caught.." She placed her hand on his chest, then glanced up at his eyes in a fake agony.

"It was fun while it laste-."

"What are you two talking bout?"

A deep voice slurred behind her, and she turned around and seen a sleepy Devlin sitting up, rubbing the bottom of his eye.

His shirt was still off, and he looked kiddish, rubbing his eye lids. Katrina thought it was the cutest thing.

"We're just being silly." She said, giving him a soft smile.

"Wot' time is it?" He grumbled, looking around for his phone.

"It's only three." Jared softly said. Devlin stopped what he was doing, then laid back down. His eyes were instantly shut, and he made breathing noises out of his nose.

Jared scrunched his face. "Was he seriously talking to us? Or did I just imagine that?"

"He was talking." Katrina whispered.

She opened the door wide for Jared to come in. He did so; then sat down on Katrina's side of the bed at the end.

Katrina went over to Devlin's side to inspect, and she bent over to see his face. He was completely asleep, or she thought; She poked him, and he groaned, and kept sleeping. "Devlin?" She whispered, and it took him a minute before he answered.

"Hmmm?" He said silently, his eyes were still closed.

"Are you awake?" He made a small noise, and turned to where Jared was sitting, he was hugging Katrina's pillow.

She peeped at Jared, but he was staring intently at Devlin.

"It's weird.. He's not looking at me, but he's smiling." Jared whispered.

Katrina walked over to Jared and watched Devlin. He wasn't entirely smiling; His small lips tugged up so it made it seem like he was smiling.

"His lips are a true character." Jared whispered in amazement. "It's like they have a mind of their own."

Katrina smiled and sat next to him. Jared looked around the room and then back at Devlin.

Devlin's eyes were completely open. Giving him a crazy expression.

Jared jumped at the sudden shock. "Jesus." He breathed out.

Katrina hit him on the arm.

"What?" She asked impatiently.

"He's awake." He said out loud, and Katrina glanced back at him; Devlin's eyes were closed.

She slid on the bed next to Devlin, and her face was close to his. She inspected him for a bit; To see if he would start smiling, but he didn't. She tapped him on the face with three fingers, and he breathed in through his nose.
