The phone rang at three in the morning waking Shoto from an easy sleep. One of the rare ones so it was understandable that he was a bit irritable. He groaned, rolling over in his bed and grabbed his phone off his bedside table.
There was no one calling. Immediately he sat up and reached under his mattress feeling for the burner phone. He answered it immediately after finding it- still annoyed that he was woken up so early but knowing it had to have been important.
"The hell do you want?" he bit, not bothering to flick on a light. There was no way he was going to stay awake until school.
"Is that anyway to talk to your brother Shoto?" the familiar voice said through the phone, though there was a laugh in it that ground on Shoto's bones.
"Well when you wake me up at 3am, yes, yes it is. Now what is it?" Shoto replied, laying back down. Savoring the feelings of the soft pillow on his head.
"Are you ready for tomorrow?"
Shoto rolled his eyes. Of course he was ready, he had been training for this moment since he was eight.
"You know I am." Shoto said, closing his eyes. He was calm and why wouldn't he be? He got into UA on recommendation and he's the son of the number two hero. He was powerful and confident and he knew exactly what he needed to do.
"We need a list of your classmates quirks and anyone you see potential in Sho." his brother said and Shoto could imagine his expression. All worried and nervous but Shoto was ready for this.
"Yes Touya, I know. Stop worrying so much, everyone is going to trust me." Shoto said, exasperated. He wanted to go back to sleep.
Touya sighed on the other end of the phone. "I told you to stop calling me that. It's Dabi." he sighed, "Is there anything you need?" he asked and again Shoto rolled his eyes. Stupid brotherly protectiveness.
"Sleep." he said shortly, "Why'd you call me so early anyway?" he asked, opening his eyes to glance at the clock again.
"Toga woke everyone up after dragging some fake hero, half dead, into the headquarters." Touya laughed softly, "his screaming was a little hard to ignore and I figured it was a good time to check up on you." he said.
"Mhm, I'm sure you did. Which hero?" Shoto asked, more awake now and getting increasingly annoyed by it.
Touya didn't say anything for a minute. "Hm, actually it look likes it some sidekick. Whatever- they were poking their heads around our headquarters so we may have to move soon." Shoto groaned at this.
"Again? It's hard enough to meet up as it is." he said, sitting up again because he was now far too awake to go back to sleep.
"I know, it won't be like this forever though. You'll be able to live with the rest of us soon." Touya said.
"Not soon enough." Shoto grumbled, deciding to turn on his light. "Why am I looking at only people in my class again? Couldn't there be people in the other class that are just as powerful?" He asked.
"Too suspicious. No one is going to question why you're asking about people in your class but they might if you ask about the other class." Touya said, checking the time on his watch. He had wanted to call Shoto to check on him for the undercover mission but... he was also worried about him.
His little brother had been through so much since such a young age.
He had dragged him into a dangerous life- or rather Shoto had begged to join the life and Touya just couldn't say no to his brother. Not when he felt the same way that Shoto did.
