Someone was shaking his shoulder and the first thing Katsuki felt was irritation because why was someone else waking him up? He was more than capable of waking up on his own. He swatted at the hand until it swatted back at him.
Katsuki opened his eyes and found his mother standing above him, he groaned and turned back into Shoto? He sat up with a start, realizing that he was not, in fact, in his room and he was on the couch. Sleeping next to Shoto who was still fast asleep next to him.
"Morning, brat," Mitsuki said, amused, "care to explain?" she asked gazing down at Katsuki who kept looking between Shoto and his mother.
"I um," he shook his head, still fuzzy with sleep as he tried to remember what had happened. They hadn't fought or even argued but Katsuki remembered feeling confused. And he also remembered being extremely tired when he first woke up. "Fell asleep." Katsuki tried, scratching his head.
Mitsuki narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest, "I've told you if Shoto needs a place to stay for the night all you have to do it tell me. I can set up a room." She said quietly, still considerate of the fact that Shoto was not awake. "You don't have to sneak him in." She added.
Katsuki's eyes widened even more, "I didn't sneak him in!" he exclaimed befor being being reprimanded for being too loud. Mitsuki took her son's arm and guided him farther away as to not wake up Shoto.
"Since when do you lie to me, Katsuki." Mitsuki said, frowning.
"I'm not!" Katsuki insisted, "besides, if I was going to sneak him in, why the hell would I be so careless as to fall asleep on the couch?" he asked, putting his hands on his hips.
"Then again, would you care to explain?" she repeated and Katsuki huffed, leaving the room entirely before sitting himself down at a stool by the kitchen counter. Mitsuki followed him in but instead of sitting she started a kettle of water on the stove.
"He got here at five-fifteen like normal." Katsuki said and before his mother could ask he said, "ginger tea." She nodded opening a cabinet and pulling it out.
"And you ran all the way to the couch to go back to sleep?" she asked, chuckling softly. Katsuki blushed and looked away.
"No!" he exclaimed, drumming his fingers on the counter.
"Then please, continue."
Katsuki let out another annoyed breath, rolling his eyes. Seriously, didn't she know him better than that? "He asked me if I was okay because I said I only wanted to run three miles and I told him I was just tired."
"That's unlike you." Mitsuki noted, drying off three mugs that had washed moments before.
"I know that!" Katsuki snapped, "but it was true." He said, falling back into the comfortability of being able to talk to his mother. But he was nervous to admit he was having trouble sleeping. He was even more nervous to admit why. "I guess he noticed something was wrong so he asked me if I was okay." He huffed, "as if I wouldn't be okay."
Mitsuki gave him a point look, "are you?" she asked.
Katsuki lowered his eyes, "I-I've been having nightmares." He whispered, playing with his fingers.
"Nightmares?"
"Mhm, about him," Katsuki said, looking back at Shoto who had turned over on the couch. His face was visible in the morning sun that shone through the curtains. "After the fight with Stain I I can't stop imaging what would have happened if if he-" he closed his eyes, turning his face away and looking out of the window.
