Barbara Lake was the mother of twins, James Lake and Josephine Lake, as for her husband or dad in their case, assumed to run away with another woman when James and Josephine were just five years old. And ever since then, she looks for jobs and found a permanent one in Arcadia Oaks, California.
As they were all in a car, following the moving truck, they pulled into a neighborhood that wasn't crowded but had a house next to them. Before they exited the car, Barbara looked at them in the rearview mirror.
"Look, I know this move is hard on all of us after what happened, but a fresh start is good. Trust me. For all of us this is like a do-over or keeping our past out of sight and out of mind. I get to start my new job at the local hospital and you guys get to actually go to a school, where I know you'll be friends with all those around you." She tried to smile and frowned as James was just looking out the window as Josephine sketched in her notebook.
"Come on. Get out of the car..its' been hours, I know you may want to stretch those legs." she laughed and got out as James looked at his sister, "Josie..", "Jim.." she said back to him, "What are you going to do for the fresh new start.." she looked up at him, "I'm not sure..what about you,", "An attempt to overcome being shy," she smiled slightly, "That's huge for you to do that.." he laughed, "Yeah.." as she looked in his direction there was a chubby kid on the sidewalk trying to play basketball but didn't make any baskets.
"What about taking a leap..there's a kid over there..", "Hm?" he looked and saw who she saw, "Maybe..", "How about we both go over there..so it can relieve the tension about having a twin as a sibling.." he looked at her, "Deal.." he put his hand out as they shaked hands and got out of the car. While they walked over, their mom came out to get boxes and saw her kids making an attempt to be friends with the kid.
She smiled, "Hey.." Josephine said, the chubby kid looked at them, "You speaking to me? Oh my awesome sauce! Someone is actually talking to me!" he turned to his house, "See Nana! People talk to me!" They laughed, "I'm Tobias Domzalski.." he placed a hand out as Josephine hit James shoulder to shake hands and make an introduction. "I'm James Lake Jr,", "And I'm Josephine Lake.."
They shook hands, "Well..welcome to Arcadia Oaks..where everything here is normal, well normal in this part of the Neighborhood and the schools.." they smiled, "So we've heard.." James said, "Yeah..don't worry you'll get used to it..", "Jim, I am going to go help mom," he nodded, "Okay Josie.." She went to go help her mom and along the way James started going more by Jim to Tobias and gave Tobias the nickname Toby and Tobes as he started calling Josephine by Josie.
"So you play basketball?" Jim said as Toby looked at him, "No. My Nana wanted me to exercise since being on a diet means eating food and exercise and not just one of them." Jim laughs, "I cook so maybe I could make you something one day..", "Ooo okay..maybe once I'm off this diet.." he nodded. "I think we will be the best of buds.." Toby said, "That would be great.."
