A/N: This story takes place between NIGHTFALL and FLASHBACK. It doesn't address the other events though.
(Biana POV)
Biana looked at herself in the mirror. She was going to go to the group sleepover at Havenfield that night. She had wanted to wear her favourite dress but... ever since the drama in Atlantis, Biana had scars on her neck, back and arms. She knew no-one judged her but... she couldn't expose them. She looked so awful when she showed them.
She picked up a long sleeve tunic, and paired with her cape, it covered her neck and arms. Biana looked in the mirror and sighed. At least Dex would be at the sleepover. Biana blushed at the thought of her crush. If only she could wear the dress, it might have made him think she was cute. But it was impossible. She walked upstairs to the leapmaster where Fitz was waiting. They leaped to Havenfield, where Sophie, Keefe, Linh, Tam and Dex were waiting.
(Dex's POV)
Biana just arrived, he thought. I need to play it cool. Dex had a major crush on Biana. She's far too good for me thought, he thought. She's a Vacker and I'm... Dex Dizznee. Dex noticed what Biana was wearing. She's hiding her scars, he realised as the group went inside. She must feel insecure about them, even though she's still the fabulous Biana Vacker.
The group sat down and talked for a bit. Dex couldn't help but notice that Biana seemed so... un-Biana. I wish I could cheer her up, he thought. "Hey Dex?! Are you listening?" Biana asked. Dex jumped. "Sorry, could you repeat that?" Biana sighed. "I said, we are gonna play truth or dare now. Dex, truth or dare." Dex bit his lip. "Hmmmm... truth I guess." "Okay, who do you like?" asked Biana. Dex flushed red. "No-one?" He said, extremely unconvincingly. "The fact that you said it as a question proves you're lying." Sophie said.
"F-fine. I do like someone. I won't tell though." "At least describe them." Biana said. "O-okay. But only their personality, if I say what she looks like, it'll be obvious." Everyone accepted those conditions. "She's nice, kinda sassy but really kind. She's going through a rough time lately, but is trying to power through it, with such bravery. The girl I like is also way out of my league. Her family is famous, and if we dated her family would probably hate it." Dex was still red as he finished.
"Do we know her?" asked Sophie. Dex nodded. "We all know her." "Why would her family hate it?" asked Keefe. "We'd obviously be a bad match. She's so perfect and I'm... me." Dex said sadly. "You're fine just the way you are." said Biana. Sophie and the others nodded. "Uhhh.... anyway, who wants to go next?" Dex asked. "Oi, don't change the topic." said Tam. "Yeah, spill the tea." said Linh.
Dex shook his head. "Is she in this room?" asked Sophie. Dex went red again. "I'm not answering that." "Hey can you give me a truth?" she asked Dex. "No fair, you just went." said Keefe. "Please, Dex?" asked Biana. "Okay, fine. Is it just me, or have you been purposely covering the scars that Vespara gave you?" Biana froze. Dex cursed himself for being so insensitive.
(Biana's POV)
"Okay, fine. Is it just me, or have you been purposely covering the scars that Vespara gave you?" Biana froze at the words. She hugged her knees to her chest. "Maybe. It's just that I hate the way they look. It makes me look hideous." She looked really upset. "Oh my god... I'm so sorry I didn't mean..." Dex looked away. Biana vanished. They saw the door swing open then shut.
Biana ran down the hall. She heard her friends calling her name, but she just couldn't talk to them. She couldn't talk about this to anyone, it hurt to much. She collapsed against the wall, re-appearing. Dex ran up to. "I'm so sorry Biana, I didn't mean to be insensitive." Biana didn't say anything.
(Dex's POV)
Dex saw Biana sobbing in a corner. He apologized, but Biana said nothing. "Do you want me to go?" Biana shook her head. "It's not your fault it's just... it's just hard." Biana whispered something to Dex. He nodded. Sophie and Fitz ran up to them. "What's the matter?" Sophie asked Biana. "I feel sick... like I might throw up. I think I should go." She said.
"Are you sure?" asked Fitz. Biana nodded. "You stay though, I don't want to spoil anyone's fun." She gave a weak smile. "Okay, go home and rest." said Sophie. "We'll tell the others what happened. I'll hail Mum and Dad." Fitz said, getting out his imparter. Biana shook her head. "I'll do it." she raised her home crystal and was gone.
"Dex, why did you bring that up?" asked Fitz. "I'm sorry. She left because she felt sick, I did nothing. She said it wasn't my fault." Dex told him. "Because she's to nice and to in love with you to hurt your feelings!" Fitz said, exasperated. "Wait, what?" Dex said. "Did you just say she-" "Yeah, Biana likes you." Fitz said. "Wait, Biana's your crush?" asked Sophie. Dex blushed and nodded.
They walked back to the main room. Dex was in shock. She liked him back! His joy was crushed as he realised something. Biana had told him to play along with her story. Meaning, she left because of what he said.
All of the happiness drained out of Dex. He had to talk to her. "I need to go, sorry guys, my Mum left me a message, the triplets are running rampant, I need to go." He gave an apologetic smile to the group. "Oh, that's no good." said Sophie. "You guys have fun." Dex said, leaping away.
(Biana POV)
Biana had leaped home, walked upstairs and collapsed onto her bed. Her parents were doing an assignment from the council, so she was alone in the large house. She pulled off her sleeves, looking at the many scars crisscrossing her arms. Her eyes welled. She remembered what Dex had said. Tears fell from her eyes. He had noticed. It was stupid of her to think this, but how could he ever like her, when she was just some broken girl who was covered in scars.
Plus, he liked someone else. Who was the lucky girl, she wondered. It doesn't matter, all I know is that Dex will never like me that way I like him. Biana sobbed, feeling miserable. She was hideous, Dex liked someone else, what could be worse than this?
She heard noises downstairs. She froze. Who was it. "W-who's there?" she called. "Uhh... it's Dex." Biana groaned quietly. She couldn't face him right now, not like this. Dex couldn't see her scars. He'd never like her then. She tried to think up a plan, but Dex walked into her room.
(Dex's POV)
He opened to door to her room, only to find Biana was sobbing on her bed. Their eye's met and she vanished. "Biana, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you." He said. "You mean a lot to me, and I just wanted to see if you were okay." "Well, I'm not. Plus, you care about her more!" Biana said, re-appearing. "Who are you talking about?" Dex asked, confused.
"The girl you like, who else. You'll never return my feelings, even if she wasn't there. Because... because of this." She held out her arms. Dex sat down beside her. "Biana... you don't know who like at all, do you?" "I don't need to. With these scars, it will never be me."
Dex lifted up part of his shirt, revealing a bunch of scars. "I got these when I was kidnapped. No-one knows about them except Elwin. They don't change me. Biana, your scars don't change a thing. Do they change your face? Your personality? Biana, they don't change you. They aren't a mark of defeat, if you hide them and be ashamed, then the Neverseen will have truly won ."
She looked up. Dex reached for her face. "Get it now?" he asked, blushing slightly. Biana looked taken aback. "I-I... I don't know." She said, her face red. Dex pulled Biana closer, kissing her. Her eyes widened in suprise. Dex pulled back, his eyes staring into hers. "They don't change you." He said firmly, holding her face. Biana was still red as she asked, "Y-you like me?" "No, I don't like you. Biana Amberly Vacker, I love you."
Biana smiled shyly. "Thank you." "When I look at you, I don't see your scars. I don't see the broken girl you think you are. I see a beautiful girl who I would do anything for." Tears gathered in Biana's eyes. "I-I love you to!" She said. They kissed again, both happier than they had been in a long time.
They eventually separated, needing to breathe. "Should we go back to Havenfield?" Biana asked. Dex nodded. "It was rude for us to leave like that." "Yeah." They went up to the leapmaster. Once they arrived, there was a lot of commotion. But as Dex looked at Biana, whose arms were exposed, her scars glinting in the glow of the setting sun, he knew one thing for sure. Biana was ready to heal, and he would be right by her side.
