It had been a week since the news had come. The news that had brought foxfire, and most of the elven world, to a standstill. The news that had destroyed Biana. The news that Sophie and Dex had drowned in a freak accident.
The planting had been a few days ago. Everyone had been shattered by the news. Since hearing the news, Biana hadn't gotten out of bed except to go to the planting. Sure, everyone had been ravaged by the news, but it was different for Biana.
She had been meaning to talk to Sophie and Dex the next day. She had gotten into a fight with Sophie the day before the news had come. Sophie had died believing that Biana had been faking their friendship, which she hadn't.
And Dex... Biana had been going to tell him that she liked him. But now... she would never get that chance. One of her best friends had died believing she hated her, and her crush had died thinking that Biana was faking everything, about Sophie, about him.
Biana pulled the doona covers over her head. She was in bed, having zero motivation to do anything but cry. She felt so much heartbreak and grief, and most of all, guilt. Biana had heard about what had happened before the accident.
Sophie had been so upset over the fight with Biana that she had run into on of Havenfield's caves, not knowing about the high tide. Dex had gone down to check on her, just in time for his life to be claimed alongside hers.
Biana turned onto her side. They were dead because of her. Her actions had caused their deaths. At the planting, she hadn't even been able to look at Grady and Edalin, the same went for Keslar and Juline. Rex, Bex and Lex hadn't said a single thing at the planting, so consumed by grief that their personalities had changed.
Hiding under her blanket, sobbing once more, Biana felt the gulit building up. One fight had caused so much pain. No-one knew that Biana had been the cause of her friend's deaths. All Grady and Edaline knew was that Sophie was upset because she had had a fight with someone.
A knock sounded at the door. Biana didn't turn towards the door. She heard it creak open. It was probably her parents, checking on her. So she was suprised when it was Fitz who spoke.
"Hey. Are you doing alright?" He asked, his own voice showing that he had only just stopped crying. Biana said nothing. Fitz walked over to her. "Do you want to talk? I think it might help both of us. I'm pretty sure I know how you're feeling." Fitz told her.
Biana sat up. "No, you really don't." "Really? I had meant to tell her, just like you were going to tell him." FItz said, his voice strained. "You don't know. None of you know, or understand." Biana said quietly.
"You can talk to me. Dad said-" Fitz was cut off. "I don't care what Dad said! Part of this is his fault, and yours!" She yelled. Fitz looked taken aback. "Wha-" "You told her that Dad made me be her friend! We had a fight that day, she wouldn't have even been in the caves with Dex if I hadn't said that!" Biana said, her voice cracking.
"It's my fault they're gone." She added quietly. Fitz looked shocked at her outburst. "I- I'm going to go for now." He walked towards the door, his footsteps being the only sound besides Biana's sobbing.
She pulled the blankets back over her head. Guilt was not good for elves, and learning that she had caused the deaths of her friend and crush was causing Biana's mental health to decline at an alarming rate.
If nothing happen to stop it, Biana's mind will break very soon.
Fitz walked slowly back to to his room. As he feared, Biana was blaming herself. She didn't know that he felt just as shit. He had been the one to tell Sophie that Biana was faking it, because he hadn't wanted her to get hurt if she found out later. How ironic that she was now dead.
He walked through his bedroom doorway, and collapsed onto his bed. He looked over at the wall, where a picture of him, Sophie, Biana, Dex and Keefe was. It would never be the same. Because of him.
Fitz took the picture down from the wall, staring at it. Everyone in the picture was so happy, full of smiles and laughter. Now two of them would never smile again. Fitz hadn't noticed he was crying until his bison grew blurry. He sat down on his bed.
All of a sudden, something happened. Something he thought would never happen again. Fitz? The voice echo Ed around his mind. Weak but it was there. The voice of Sophie Elizabeth Foster.
Biana looked at the clock on her wall. It was 4:00. Exactly one week and 1 day since the news had arrived. She stared at the ceiling.
Footsteps echoed down the hall. Biana didn't care, even as fhey neared her room. Whatever it was, she didn't care. Why should she?
The door to her room burst open. It was Fitz. His faces was streaked with tears, but Biana noticed something in his eyes. Something she hadn't seen since the news had come. Fitz's teal eyes held hope, even if just a sliver.
"They might still be alive." He whispered. Biana froze. "Wh-what?" She asked, not getting her hopes up. "About 20 minutes ago, I received a transmission from someone claiming to be Sophie. I brushed it off, sure my mind was playing a trick on me. The same voice came just know. Sophie and Dex are alive, but might not be for much longer." He said.
"We need to go help them. We thought we killed them. We neeed it check this out, even if it's fake." Fitz said. Biana didn't move. Could what he was saying be true? Could Sophie and Dex still be alive? It was a small chance, but they had to go.
The siblings raced upstairs towards the leap master. They leapt to the four seasons tree, where Sophie and Dex supposedly were. Biana was pleading with the universe to let trek be alive. They had to be.
They arrived. Biana and Fitz didn't wait to regain their bearings before looking around. Two figures were slumped over near the tree. They were both bleeding and burned, as well as deathly pale.
The figures were Sophie and Dex. Biana ran over to them, her knees giving out as soon as she reached them. She felt tears pick her eyes. Fitz checked their pulses. "Their alive. But we need Elwin." He pulled out his imparter, hailing Elwin's mad briefly explain the dire situation.
Biana was frozen. They weren't dead. She hadn't killed them. They were alive. She repeated those sentences over and over, until Elwin arrived. He took one look at the unconscious figures before him, before pulling out medical supplies and getting to work.
The next 24-hours were a daze for Biana. All she could think about was that they're were alive... at least for now. It was a far stretch to say she felt okay.
Both her best friend and her crush were in critical condition. They had been kidnapped. And it was still her fault. Biana felt her mind stretch, threading to shatter. No, their alive, I didn't kill them! She said, trying not to cry anymore.
Her efforts were futile. They were now in the healing centre, then she was at Everglen, Elwin setting Sophie up their, before he set Dex up at his house, Rimeshire. Biana hadn't noticed she had followed him to Dex's bedside.
Julienne, Keslar, Rex, Bex and Lex had gathered around him, the six of them watched as Elwin frantically worked, leaping back and forth between Foxfire and Everglen. Biana didn't say anything. Just silently cried.
She saw Dex's family standing around him, they were all crying. She had caused them this pain. How cruel would it be for Dex to be alive, then die? Biana was terrified of what could happen next.
A/N: As I may have mentioned, I am shit at writing angst. I'll leave this one here. See you next one shot! I hope this one didn't suck!
