A/N: 169 reads. Nice. Lol, theres more now, but when I started this there were 169. And that number is quality.
Anyway, this is set in NIGHTFALL. It doesn't mention any events in the book apart from Sophie's sister being there.
Keefe, Tam, Sophie, Fitz, Linh, Biana and Dex were all in Atlantis. More specifically, they were all in the hidden floor of Quinlin Sonden's house. They were talking to Sophie's younger sister, Amy, who had come to the lost cities a few weeks before.
Amy was talking to them about her life, and what the forbidden cities were like. She was just talking about stuff she'd done, but then she started talking about an event she'd attended.
"So, about a month ago, me and my friends went to the pride march." Amy told them. "Pride?" Tam asked. "Oh, do you guys know what LGBTQIA+ is?" Sophie asked. The others looked at the sisters blankly.
"So, humans have sexualities, right? Well, liking someone of the opposite gender, so a girl and a guy, is called being straight. Liking someone of your own gender, so boy and boy, girl and girl, is called being gay or lesbian." Sophie explained.
"Liking both genders is called being bi." She finished. "Oh, I have heard of that. I don't think elves use that acronym though." Biana said. "Why would there be a march though?" Fitz asked. (Not to be rude, they don't know about homophobia yet.)
Amy sighed. "Well, the forbidden cities aren't as accepting as you guys. People get judged or discriminated against for gender, race, or sexuality. Being rude about gay stuff is called homophobia, and pride events are protests against it. Or just celebrations of being yourself." Amy said.
"Oh, cool. I've never heard of those terms before, but yeah, I do know what you're talking about." Linh said. Tam nodded, as did Fitz and Dex. "I guess it's just uncommon here, so we didn't know much about it." Biana said.
As everyone talked, Keefe felt weird. Was I the only one that hadn't heard about it? He wondered. But despite not having heard about it, something about what Amy was saying felt familiar to Keefe.
"it's so stupid how humans discriminate like that though. It's so unfair, people can't help who they like, or what they look like." Linh said. "Well, you guys do nothing as bad as humans, but you still discriminate based on talents." Amy said.
"Yeah, this world isn't as nice as it seems." Dex said. Everyone continued asking Amy questions. Keefe however, was lost in thought. Why did this concept he'd never heard of before resonate with him?
Later that night, after everyone had gone home, Keefe lay awake. He lay on his bed, looking at pictures he'd drawn of him and his friends. His eye caught on one of Tam. Keefe felt his heart flutter. What's going on? He wondered, his mind drifting back to the earlier conversation.
He pulled out his imparter, and called Sophie. She was the only one who might know what was going on, she was the 'human' girl after all. She picked up after a few rings.
