I keep the Sabbath day which to me is SATURDAY. I have Christian friends who ask me, "Are you Muslim" or "Why do you say 'Sabbath?' "
I always wonder why they ask me this. The Bible speaks of the Sabbath. However, I don't really understand why most people keep the Sabbath as Sunday but from my personal study of the Bible and a little study of history, I got to understand that God's commandment says We should keep the Sabbath Day Holy. The Sabbath day is the Seventh day of the week. I also researched on the day the Old Israelites kept Holy. Their Sabbath Day was on seventh day which was Saturday.
Some people may say that they are unsure on what was truly the Seventh-day back then. However, I believe our ancestors (the Old Israelites and generally, mankind) had a way they tracked time and days. They might not have had our present calendar but I am sure they knew when was the Seventh-day and why it should be kept holy.
Also, Jesus himself kept the Sabbath and it was "His CUSTOM'
                              Luke 4: 16
" He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and In the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was *HIS CUSTOM*. And he stood up to read".
Also, he says in Matthew 5: 17-18
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished".
Therefore, there is no BIBLICAL RECORD of the change of the SABBATH day. It is still the Seventh-day. Also, Jesus did not command that we should keep the day of His Resurrection Holy. He kept the Sabbath day Holy and I believe He will want us to do the same. Besides, isn't Jesus Christ our role model? He didn't allow the things of this world separate Him from His Heavenly Father.
I am not one to judge. I just pray for the Holy Spirit to lead us to obey all God's commandments and I pray that he directs us on what day is truly the Seventh-day Sabbath.
However, if Sunday is to be the Sabbath day, why celebrate Easter Sunday as the day Jesus resurrected? Shouldn't it be Easter Monday?
What I want to say here is that whatever you do. Keep this commandment.
Exodus 20:8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
God chose the word "Remember" because He knows a day will come when His children will forget. So always remember the Sabbath day to keep it only.
The Sabbath is the seventh-day of the week.
Genesis 2:3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
God had declared man to keep the Sabbath even before there was ever a Jew. Therefore, the Sabbath day is not for just Jews but Mankind in general.
On the Sabbath day, we rest from all our labour and delight in the presence of God. We remember his creation and give glory to Him. The Sabbath day should be your day of rest. Rest in the presence and loving kindness of our Lord Jesus.
God says to us in his Word – Ezekiel 20:12 Also I gave them my Sabbaths as a sign between us, so they would know that I the LORD made them holy.
Deuteronomy 4:2 Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you.
Thank you for reading this. I hope you are blessed by it. May the Lord be with you in your going and coming. May he protect you, May the Lord answer you when you are in distress, May He grant your desires and make all your plans succeed. I pray for good health in your life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
