You can overcome temptation. One step is refocusing your attention on something else and quit all that is leading you to sin. This calls for absolute surrender to God.
"The Battle of sin is won or lost in your mind. Whatever gets your attention will get you".
Do you remember how Jesus overcame temptation? Through the Word of God. Daily meditate on God's word and also ask for the Holy spirit for he guides, counsels, comforts and leads. He won't allow you to do anything contrary to the Will of God.
Examples on how to use the Word of God as your sword:
- Tempted to gain money illegal?
Luke 12:15 "a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth".
Philippians 4:19 "And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."
So why go against God when He is willing to provide for you daily?
Remember the Bible says, "I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you". (Psalms 19:11)
- Tempted to not just lust but do more than that? Tempted to watch pornographic contents?
Proverb 31:30 "Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain".
You can join David to say, "I will set before my eyes no vile thing, the deeds of faithless men I hate; they shall not cling to me".
The Bible (God's Word) is your weapon against Temptation. Use it.
Remember: Don't carelessly place yourself in tempting situations. Flee from it. Resist the Devil. Remember that it is easier to stay away from temptation than to get out of it.
