Prayer is the Key.
"Prayer should be the key of the day and the lock of the night" – Fuller.
Through nature and revelation, through His providence, and by the influence of His spirit, God speaks to us. But these are not enough; we need also to pour our hearts to Him. In order to have spiritual life and energy, we must have actual intercourse with our heavenly Father. Our minds may be drawn out toward Him; we may meditate upon His works; His mercies, His blessings; but this is not, in the fullest sense, communing with Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend. Not that it is necessary in order to make known to God what we are, but in order to enable us to receive Him.
How to Pray {Matt 6:9-13}
"Lord, teach me how to pray!" is a prayer necessary to prayer; for unless we are divinely instructed in the manner, and influenced by the spirit of true devotion, even the prayer taught us by Jesus Christ may be repeated without profit to our souls. We need to pray that the Holy spirit teaches us how to pray a prayer that would be wholehearted and acceptable.
Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV)
"After this manner therefore pray ye:
'Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen"||||
Plainly thus: there are three parts of the above prayer.
1. PREFACE, Our Father who art in heaven. Before we come to our business, there must be a silence address to him with whom our business lies; Our Father. We are taught to whom to pray; to God only, and not to saints and angels, For they are ignorant of us, are not to have the honours we give in prayer, nor can give favors we expect. We must address ourselves to Him as our Father. He is a common Father to always mankind by creation. We must address ourselves to Him as our Father in Heaven. He is a Father, and therefore we may come to Him with boldness, but a Father in Heaven, and therefore we must come with reverence.
2. THE PETITIONS (Prayer), and those are six; the three first relating more immediately to God and his honour, the three last to our own concerns, both temporal and spiritual; as in the ten commandments, the four first teach us our duty toward God, and the last six our duty toward our neighbour. The method of this prayer teaches us to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and then to hope the other things shall be added!
(a) Hallowed be thy name. We should give glory to God. When we pray that God's name may be glorified, we make a virus of necessity. We ask for that which we are sure shall be granted, for when our Saviour prayed, Father glorify thy name, it was immediately answered, I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.
(b) Thy Kingdom come. This petition (prayer) has plainly a reference to the doctrine which Christ preached at this time, which John Baptist had preached before, and which he afterwards sent his athletes out to preach. The kingdom of Heaven is at hand. The kingdom of your Father who is in heaven, the kingdom of the Messiah, this is at hand, pray that it may come. Note, we should turn the word we hear into prayer, our hearts should echo to it.
(c) Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. "Lord, do what thou pleases with me" Say this words in your prayer. Your purpose and life should be directed by God. "Enable me to do what is pleasing to thee; given me that grace that is necessary to the right knowledge of thy will, and an acceptable obedience to it.
(d) Give us this day our daily bread. After the things of God's glory, Kingdom and will, we pray for the necessary supports and comforts of this present life, which are gifts of God, and must be asked of him.
(e) And forgive us our debtors, as we forgive our debtors. Note, those that come to God for the forgiveness of their sins against him, must make conscience to forgiving those who have offended them.
(f) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Temptations are to be prayed against, both because of the discomfort and trouble of them, and because of the danger we are in of being overcome by them and the guilt and grief that then follow. "Lord, deliver us from the evil of the world, deliver from ourselves, from our evil hearts, deliver us from evil men".
3. CONCLUSION. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. It is a form of praise and thanksgiving. The best pleasing with God is praising of Him. Lastly, AMEN. Our Amen is only a summary desire.
Thanks for reading. I pray that the Holy spirit will teach you the right way to pray. We need to learn to pray with our heart and soul. Our prayer must and should be sincere. Pray without ceasing.
I want to say a prayer I know. This prayer should be a daily matter. You can say this prayer everyday. Most especially in the morning before you start your daily activities. It was gotten from a book, Steps to Christ by Ellen G. White.
Consecrate yourself to God in the morning; make this your very first work. Let your prayer be,
"Take me, O Lord, as wholly thine. I lay all my plans to thy feet. Use me today in thy service, Abide with me, and let all my work be wrought in thee".
I hope you were blessed. God be with you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Question of the Day from a friend.
How can I receive the Baptism of Holy Spirit.
If you have anything to say to that. Pls share it. I will try to prepare a message for that.
