2016 -

For the next year I've helped the team track down Rumlow....he had survived and now was stealing biological weapons and killing people.

Tony and I....weren't okay. He was growing tired of me constantly being away with the team. But this is what I wanted to do.

We were in Lagos, I was sitting alone at a table drinking some coffee. Nat was several tables away, and Wanda was only three tables away from me.

I look down as I get a call, "Tony this isn't the best time." I say quietly.

"It never is. You don't remember what tonight was do you?"

"Tonight?" I ask.

"Y/N...focus." Steve says in my ear piece.

"We were supposed to go to dinner....with Happy.... His birthday."

"Shit Tony...I'm sorry I couldn't....I'm in Lagos. We got a lead." I sigh.

"Mhm...figured. I can't do this, Y/N. It's me or the team."

"Your really asking me to choose? You know I can't do that." I whisper.

"Y/N...." Steve says.

"Tony I have to go. We'll talk about this later."

"If you hang up...we're done." He suddenly says.

"Tony... stop this. We'll talk this over later. I love you." I hang up. "You guys heard all of that, didn't you?" I sigh.

"Yup." Sam says.

"I'm sorry."

"Alright come on guys.... what do you see?" Steve asks.

"Standard beat cops. Small station. Quiet street. It's a good target." I say.

"There's an ATM on the south corner, which means?"

"Cameras. Both cross streets are one-way. So, compromised escape routes." Wanda says.

"Means our guy doesn't care about being seen. He isn't afraid to make a mess on the way out. You see that Range Rover halfway up the block?"

"Yeah, the red one? It's cute." Wanda says.

"It's also bulletproof, which means private security... which means more guns... which means more headaches for somebody. Probably us." Nat says.

"You guys know I can move things with my mind, right?" Wanda asks.

"Looking over your shoulder needs to become second nature." Nat says.

"Anybody ever tell you you're a little paranoid?" Sam asks Nat.

"Not to my face. Why? Did you hear something?"

"Eyes on target, folks. This is the best lead we've had on Rumlow in six months. I don't want to lose him." Steve sighs.

I scoff. "If he sees us coming, that won't be a problem. He kind of hates us."

"Sam... see that garbage truck? Tag it."

Sam pauses a moment, "That truck's loaded for max weight. And the driver's armed."

"It's a battering ram." Nat says.

"Go now."

"What?" Wanda asks.

"He's not hitting the police."

Nat and I run down the street, I get on a motorcycle and start it up as she sits behind me. She holds onto me as I speed off.

"Rumlow has a biological weapon."

"We're on it." I say. "Ready?" I ask Nat.

"Yup." We both sit up as I pull the breaks, I tip the motorcycle and we leap off, sending the motorcycle into a soldier. I throw a small disk down at two, electrocuting them.

I then run over to Rumlow and leap up on his shoulders, swinging back and slamming him on the ground. I flip up and go to kick his face, Rumlow grabs my foot and swings me into a tree. "Bitch!" He yells. I gasp in pain as he grabs me by my hair, pulling me up and using all his force to punch me in the face.

"Y/N! Get up!" Nat shakes me. I open my eyes and hiss in pain as she touches my cheek. "Your bleeding."

"Sorry...fucker hit me right in the face." I say as she pulls me up.

I move my jaw around, the right side of my cheek was swollen and probably already bruised. Nat pulls me over to the motorcycle, she gets on, pulling me behind her. I hold onto her arms as she speeds through the streets. "Out of the way!" She yells, turning and stopping between two taxis.

"I've got four, they're splitting up. " Sam says.

"We got the two on the left." Nat says, jumping off.

"They ditched their gear. It's a shell game now. One of them has the payload." Steve says.

Nat and I run through the crowd, chasing after the two men.  "He doesn't have it. I'm empty!" Sam yells.

"Out of the way!" I yell, leaping over a table. I look up and jump onto another table, grabbing a pole above me and swinging up on the roof.

I run across the roof and dive off, tackling one of the men. I flip up and grab his gun, punching his stomach as Nat goes for the other man. We stop as I point the gun at the soldier, the other one holding up the Payload.

"Drop it. Or I'll drop this."

"Drop it! He'll do it!" The one pointing their gun at me yells.

Redwing flies down and shoots the man with the payload, I quickly shoot the soldier in front of me as Nat dives down and catches the payload. "Payload secure. Thanks, Sam." Nat nods.

"Don't thank me."

"I'm not thanking that thing." Nat frowns.

"His name is Redwing."

"I'm still not thanking it." She rolls her eyes.

"He's cute. Go ahead, pet him. "

"Thank you Redwing." I smile.

"Y/N likes him." Sam brags.

I duck as there is suddenly an explosion in the building behind us.

"Oh my god."
