A few weeks later

After that day in Duma's room, Gabriel started to visit more often. Much to Sam and Dean's dismay. But she was starting to warm up to him. Almost every night, he would sneak into her room and they would talk while she drew more pictures on her walls. He still kept his distance, but she now let him sit on the floor beside her and he would just ask her questions to listen to her. He felt that she wasn't used to this kind of interaction and it upset him. He was slowly growing fond of her and he saw why Cas was so protective of her.

Duma walked into the main room of the bunker. Sam and Dean were sitting at the table while Cas was standing. Sam smiled at her "Good morning, Duma". She returned his smile a little, then tilted her head "Is it a good morning for you, Sam?". He chuckles, nodding "Yeah, actually. It is". She nods "Then good morning". Dean and Cas just shook their heads, smiling. She went over to Cas and greeted him with a hug. Since she learned what they were, she started hugging him more often. But she didn't feel comfortable enough to hug anyone else yet. Which they assured her was fine. Cas smiled and hugged her back before kissing her head briefly. He considered her a little sister and felt very strongly about protecting her. He made it very clear to both the Winchesters that they weren't allowed to flirt with her or date her. But Gabriel clearly didn't get the memo. He flirted with her a little, but she was oblivious to it anyway. Cas was afraid that if she experienced too many human things all at once, it would overwhelm her and she would try to run away again. She didn't know this world as well as he and Gabe did. She knew about the monsters that existed, obviously. But what she wasn't aware of was how dangerous it would still be if there wasn't any monsters at all. He let her rest her head on his shoulder. He knew she still wasn't good at sleeping.

Duma couldn't help but wonder where the archangel was as she rested her head on her brother's shoulder. She knew he wouldn't hurt her now. But the boys seemed to have a problem with him, which she could understand. He could be annoying sometimes, but she had only seen that side of him around Cas and the Winchesters. He was nice to her. Before she could get too lost in her thoughts, Dean pulled her out of them by standing up "Alright, if anyone needs me I'll be in my room". He didn't wait for a response from anyone as he headed to the hallway. Sam sighs "We need more food in. So, I guess I'll get ready and go to the shop. Cas, you wanna come with?". The angel nodded "Alright". Sam stood up, then looked at Duma "You want anything, Duma?". She smiles "Can you get apple juice?". He chuckles, nodding "Alright". They left to get ready to go and she decided to head back to her room.

A few hours later

Duma was writing her name on a wall when she discovered that she had almost run out of chalk. She frowned, glancing at the half crayons on her desk as well. She lifted her hand to snap her fingers, then paused. She couldn't do that anymore. Then it wasn't so much about the almost used up colouring utensils. She wasn't an angel anymore. She couldn't do anything the way she used to. She didn't like this human feeling. Her eyes stung, making tears appear in them. She sat on her bed as they started to fall down her cheeks. She couldn't help it or stop it now. She sniffled, curling herself into a ball at the corner of the bed. Through blurry eyes, she looked at her walls. Her tears were warm as they slid down her face. Then there was a ruffle of feathers and a familiar voice "Hey, cutie. What do you think about-". She looked up at him and his expression softened when he noticed her tears. Then she scrambled off the bed to run over to him. She hugged him so tightly. It was so shocking to him that he almost fell backwards from the force she brought with her. However, he kept his balance as she sobbed his name into his chest. He slowly put his arms around her "Shh, it's okay. I'm here, sweetheart". He rubbed her back a little, not knowing how else to comfort her. He didn't know what was wrong, after all. He could feel her trembling in his arms. She was still crying as she pulled away from him to sit on the floor at his feet. She thought she might have collapsed if she didn't. Gabriel frowned, then knelt down in front of her. She whimpered as he pulled her closer to him again. Then he started to run his fingers through her hair and with his other hand, he gently cupped her cheek. He wiped her tears away with his thumb. He did that for a few minutes until she stopped crying. She was still shaky, though. He made her look at him "What happened, Duma? Tell me what's wrong". His voice was soft as he spoke to her. She sniffled before mumbling "I... I'm human". He immediately understood and sighs "Oh, sweetheart. I know, I'm sorry". Her lip trembled "Can you fix it?". He hesitated, he didn't want to tell her he couldn't, but he didn't want to give her false hope either "I'm sorry, cutie. I can't... I can't fix it". A few more tears fell, but he just wiped them away again "Hey, it's gonna be okay. You'll be fine, you'll get used to it eventually. It just takes time". She shakes her head "I can't! Gabe, I don't want to get used to it. I want to go home and be an angel again, I don't want to be a human! No one is giving me orders here, there's no rules. And my chalk is almost finished. That never happened with Arthur's chalk. I don't like it". He ignored the fact that it was the first time she called him Gabe and looked at her desk. She had a box of pens and pencils, a small plastic bucket for her chalk and her halved crayons were still in the packaging that Cas got them in. He stood up, gently pulling her with him before speaking quietly "Duma, if I replace this with new sets of chalk and crayons, will you let me show you something?". She tilted her head in confusion, but slowly nodded. He snapped his fingers and there was more than enough unopened and unused sets on her desk. He noticed her eyes lit up a little and he couldn't help but smile "Come on".
