"I didn't know what to buy." Sana said, holding up the paper bag full of takeouts as she entered Mina's house.
"You surely bought a lot for someone who didn't know what to buy." Mina laughed. "Are you alone?"
"Yeah" Sana answered, walking straight to the dining area. "Tzu came with the others for shopping."
"Really? And you're here beceuase?"
"Just because." Sana smiled. "Why? Can't I spend some more time with my best friend?"
Among the other girls, Sana is the closest to Mina. The latter knew Sana since her first day attending school in Gwanju. Sana, recognizing Mina's surname is not Korean, talked to her first and the rest was history.
Sana helped her a lot to be confident in speaking the language, they'd even had a special study session about it with Momo and Tzuyu every Saturday night.
Sana had helped her numerous times that Mina can't count it anymore.
Mina just laughed and helped Sana bring out the foods from the paper bag.
"How are you, Mitang?" Sana asked, nudging Mina's side. "How are you really."
Seems like the curved up lips Mina's using to cover the fact that she's troubled inside isn't enough for Sana not to notice it.
Mina looked at Sana for a moment.
"Like really." Sana emphasized, making Mina's mouth roll out a laugh.
"Hmmm.." Mina hummed, sitting on a chair accross Sana. "I don't know. I'm not sure."
"Why are you not sure?"
"Because I'm torn?" Mina hesitated. "Torn if I should involve myself or just let things go. Just let things be."
"By let things go and let things be.." Sana responded, "You mean what exactly?"
"Not care." Mina mumbled.
For some reason, her answer made Sana laugh. She then look at the latter confused.
"I mean, you? You will not care?" Sana teased. "That's impossible, Mitang. You'll only kid yourself."
"I just- I don't want to get involve because it will not ease my pain." Mina admitted. "You know what I feel right now? I feel like going back here wasted the years I've used to build and pick up myself."
Because truth be told, she still haven't moved on after all these years. The feelings Mina have for Chaeyoung was kept away in a box that is this place, Gwangju. And when she got back, ever since she got back, that box she left keeps on trying to open itself for her.
"Mitang.. You don't ease pain." Sana sighed. "You overcome it. And from what I've seen for the past six years, you never really faced what happened."
Mina felt a pang on her heart hearing Sana's words. It hurts because it's true.
This is one more thing she loves about Sana. The latter never hesitates to give out the truth, even if it will hurt other's feelings.
" After your break up, you locked yourself up. Literally." Sana continued, without breaking her gaze to Mina. "After our graduation, you fly right away to Japan. You busied yourself in studies, then in work. You didn't give yourself the time to feel the pain. To live the pain. You ignored it as if it weren't there."
Sana paused for a moment, she know some of her words are getting harsh, but Mina should hear the truth. So despite seeing Mina's eyes shedding some tears, she continued. "You thought for the past six years, you're helping yourself move on by avoiding everything that would remind her of you. You thought that was healing. That's not, Mitang. That's not moving on, that's suppression. And I know you know that suppressing what you really feel will do you no good, you know how it will blow up in your face once it's triggered. And going back here in Gwangju, it's triggering those feelings and emotions you've supressed for the past six years. The pain, the regret, everything."
Mina didn't look up until she knows Sana's done speaking. She took the time to absorb everything the latter have said. If she's in a different circumstances right now, she would laugh her ass off realising she never really moved on. She just made herself think she did.
"Yeah I'm done. You can say now that I'm right." Sana boasted. "You're welcome by the way."
"I thought therapists weren't supposed to tell their clients what to do?" Mina chuckled, wiping some tears in her face.
"Well. First, you're not my client. Second, I didn't tell you what to do. And third how can I not do that if it took you six years to admit it to yourself?" Sana protested. "You should pay me some professional fee."
"Can I pay you with this instead?" Mina got up, opening her arms. "I have the warmest hug."
"I know." Sana giggled, hugging Mina.
All this time, Mina had been avoiding things connected to Chaeyoung. And it's time now to face it.
"Thank you, Sana-chan." Mina smiled, pulling away from the hug. "You're the best."
"I know." Sana grinned. "Now what are we going to eat first?"
The talk Mina had with Sana made her realize one thing: there's no way out than through. And after six years, she'll finally go through what happened, hoping that facing the pain will let her overcome it someday.
"You're going now?" Mina asked, after eating with Sana. "I'll walk with you."
"You don't have to, Mitang." Sana responded. "I'll be fine."
"I know." Mina smiled. "But I need to go to the convenient store. I literally don't have anything in my fridge."
After some convincing, Sana let Mina walk with her. The former met with her girlfriend at the convenient store where Mina planned to go.
"Take care, okay?" Mina said, waving goodbye to the couple.
Sana and Tzuyu both wave their goodbyes and formed a heart using their arms before turning their back to Mina. Leaving the latter at the convenient store.
After getting everything she needed, Mina got out of the store. Feeling the night breeze, she decided to take a walk on her way home.
She doesn't feel heavy as she felt before and she thank her lucky stars for giving her Sana.
Mina breathe deeply.
No more ignoring the pain, she reminded herself.
